Ziegler sets record in 5,000 free (4/18/2005)
Kate Ziegler (Great Falls, Va./The Fish), 16, a member of the U.S. World Championships team, set two national records this weekend while swimming a National Internet Distance meet in Normal, Ill.
Ziegler swam the women’s open 5,000-yard freestyle with a time of 50:05.00, to break the old record by nearly two minutes. Her 3,000 split of 29:49.89 also sets a national age group record in the 15-16 girls age group. Emily Hanson of the Bloomington-Normal Waves also swam under the former 15-16 girls national age group record in the 3,000, turning in a time of 30:23.78.
At the same meet, Ziegler’s Fish teammate Chloe Sutton set a record in the girls’ 13-14 age group, swimming the 3,000 in 30:23.55.
