Zebriskie and Hincapie to Slipstream

…you heard it here first!

I heard David Millar was going to Slipstream as well.

But I heard Hincapie was going to T-Mobile…

Mot American, he’s a Scot…

What?

.

All this stuff was supposed to be a deep, dark secret. I was sworn to secrey on this and was busting at the seams wanting to tell someone.

The big ramifications of this are that Felt bicycles, Slipstream’s bike sponsor, will have the very top guys on their machines. That is exciting for them. It’s also an Olympic year, so that could be big for those riders too.

So you are confirming that DZ and George are joining Slipstream?

Millar is old news, as SuperDave already posted that news link earlier this week. I thought the rumor was Hincapie was going to join T-Mobile.

I agree Millar is old news. But the guy who posted the initial rumor about George and Zabriskie seemed to think the Millar thing wasn’t accurate because he isn’t American which led me to believe he wasn’t too informed about his rumors on GH and DZ.

If Demerly is confirming it though, maybe it’s true. But like you, I heard Hincapie to T-Mobile. Although Hincapie does make Team Slipstream’s clothing…

But it won’t be team Slipstream, it will be Chipotle as the title sponsor.

Remember that Slipstream’s opperation is hugely anti drugs. Do you really think they’d allow an admitted EPO user like Millar?

There are lots of rumors this time of year - I am amazed this is on MSNBC?

George Hincapie may be going to T-Mobile or Slipstream, but he ought to take care off his clothing company first. Has anyone tried the Hincapie trisuit? Oy vea.

Isn’t T-Mobile’s operation “hugely anti-drugs” as well? What happened to their rider yesterday?

As of right now, MSNBC holds more credibility than an internet forum poster. You may be right abotu Zabriskie and Hincapie, but I am wondering why MSNBC would print something like that unless it was confirmed.

It is good to know that George is leaving Discovery. What he has done for the team and American cycling is great but his best days are long over and it is time for the team and the country to move on. Although I am glad he will still be riding and enjoying the sport that he loves but unless it is a 5 mile prologue I don’t think George has much left in the tank at the elite level.

I thought his brother started/ran the clothing company?

No title sponsor… and more about all of this here:

I think it was an Italian web site that prematurely broke the news. Some little birdie who flies around this forum told me to Google it, and, there it was. My bet is that Vaughters will have to do some sort of official announcement before his planned date of Interbike/Sept, or whenever it was suppose to be.

This is great for a company like Felt. I have to imagine they have much larger manufacturers quaking in their boots already, and now they’ll be front and center with what will likely be the highest profile American-based team - a team that will not have a ProTour license, but will be a very high profile tier two squad, which has a heavy anti-doping stance. That’ll make the ASO happy, and so they’ll likely have their choice to pick and choose which races to attend, including the Tour, without the financial obligations that come from being held to the entire ProTour schedule…brilliant!

I’m super excited for Felt, and the tireless SuperDave Koesel, who is just one of the people that makes that company great to work with. We’re crushing with them this summer, and I’m guessing they’ll be our dominant brand for '08 with the lineup that’s coming. Very cool - we’re lucky to have them.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Chipotle. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Burritos.

“This is great for a company like Felt. I have to imagine they have much larger manufacturers quaking in their boots…”

This probably a reach. Some how I doubt Trek or Specialized are really concerned. Maybe smaller company’s like Cervelo have more to lose, but I kind of doubt it. Still, Felt is really small compared to many of the bike sponsors at this point.

But it won’t be team Slipstream, it will be Chipotle as the title sponsor.

Is it just me, but does anyone else find it somewhat ironic for Vaughter’s team to be sponsored by Chipotle when there’s an IM message transcript out there where he allegedly admits to “playing around with the ‘hot sauce’” as a rider???

Actually, I’ve heard Felt will be added to the list of brands not welcome at Specialized concept stores next year. Too much competition head-to-head.
