On Versus last night they interviewed Dave Z… He said his knees hurt and that the pain started many days ago. He said he has a plate in his leg (?) and that it was very sensitive. He also said the cause of the pain was that he switched to different shoes right after the Dauphine.
I’m wondering why would you switch to a new shoe model right before a grand tour? Changing equipment like this is always a no-no. Seems like a bonehead move to me on his part…
The team was being pressured to use the SIDI brand as they are a sponsor. He probably thought the worst of his problem was two years ago so no worries.
Who knows? SIDI probably promised him they were better than the “customs”. I am sure he must be pissed as the TT is tomm. and he wanted another shot for top three on the TT.
He was wearing custom shoes and help his knee - has some screws in the left knee after a bad crash. The team made him wear the sponser shoes and then the knee flared up and moved down to achiles…

Why couldn’t Sidi make custom shoes for Dave Z?? They do that for lots of pros.
Or just let him wear the custom shoes and put Sidi shoe covers over them
