This stinks, I don’t think he will be on CSC next year. I would love to see him on US team next season:
Zabriskie eliminated, outside Stage 11 time limit
Zabriskie in the Stars and Stripes,
originally uploaded by Frank Steele. CSC’s Dave Zabriskie, the US time trial champion, wasn’t just sandbagging to try to take the Lanterne Rouge. Zabriskie finished more than 30 minutes behind Stage 11 winner Robbie Hunter, and was eliminated.
The Team CSC website mentions only “persistent knee pain” as the reason for Zabriskie’s exit. He must have gotten caught behind even the Moreau peloton, chasing two desperate groups while riding solo.
By the way, this reminds me of one of my primary irritations with the Versus coverage – they don’t seem to address anything that happens after they leave the finish line. I suspect the logistics and time change issues would make this difficult, but there have been several times I’ve wished they would do an injury update as they finished their “Extended Primetime Coverage,” even if it was from a studio back in the US.
Not exactly sure why you’re so surprised, considering that he was in second to last place. Zabriskie gets way too much attention on this board. There are over 170 riders at least, not even including riders that did not partake in the TdF, that are far superior cyclists. In addition, his time tting skills are certainly overrated on this board as well.
I’m a bit disappointed, since I did have Zabriskie as my TT threat in the TdF pool that I’m in, so I lose 5 pts for the abandon and lose a TT threat as well before either of the long ones. he was totally a dud, scored basically nothing, I think his net for me was -4pts (1 pt for the prologue, -5pts for abandoning).
He’s a good TT’r, but from previous crashes isn’t 100% confident in a pack, which is why he attacks alot. Never saw much about why he was losing so much time. My money if he’s on a US team next year he’ll wind up on Slipstream/Chipotle. They’ll want a rider of his profile to boost their chances of getting a Wildcard for the Tour.
In all honesty, it is not really too much of a spoiler, because he is such a no-name among the rest of the TDF riders that they didn’t even cover the fact he didn’t make the cut. You would not have found out without reading about it on the internet anyway…
Nice spoiler - you’ve ruined everything! I didn’t know they’d got to stage 11, I’m tivoing the whole tour because I’m so busy and important and I’m expecting the whole world to follow a news blackout regarding the tour until I get round to watching it in september. Go Vino! Wiggins for the prologue!
Funny, I’m not at all as upset as you people are and I didn’t watch the stage yet. I got home, read this and then started watching the Tivo. I didn’t kick my cat, throw anything, or shoot anybody at all when I read this.
Lazy ben, i just wanted to say that i agree with you, i do like to watch the tour in december and then, watch ironman hawaii right after(janurary) I would gladly appreciate if people stop talking about stuff happening on this planet until i get to see them when i have time!!!
Anyway, for those that want the planet to stop spinning or go at there rythme… , dont read slowtwitch or anything else if you dont want to know what is going on in the world… maybe hide under a rock so you dont get your evening spoil…
life is happening right now… it s only a race and i dont want to open every freaking spoiler thread to know what is going on… just write what happen in the title and lets talk about it!!!
+++++ i m super grumpy today, a lot of rain in penticton and i m freaking tired from the training, so yeah, i m grumpy+++++++++
Frankly, if I leave for work before the day’s stage is done I follow it live on the web as soon as I get to my desk. Trying to pretend that it hasn’t happened all day is a bit lame. Expecting the rest of the world to avoid discussing it (after it’s been broadcast live for god’s sake) is a bit ridiculous. I might watch the rest of the stage in the evening if something exciting happened but it’s not the same as watching it live.
Now, what would happen if someone’s dog had seen the stage and told you what had happened while sniffing your butt?
