Classic face on poor DZ as he gets tagged yesterday’s pileup?
Wow, that sucks. I feel for him. Keep on truckin’, DZ.
I got some serious road rash about three weeks ago. I haven’t started to feel good again until now. Granted, these kids are in far better shape and half my age, but those injuries have got to take the starch out of them until they heal.
DZ came close to missing the cutoff today. I am not surprised.
Turns out Johan Bruyneel was right…
… in saying …
Is the bike ok?
Ouch. thanks.
I usually feel better within one day unless it’s impossible to bandage correct like on my fingers. You may not be treating it correctly.
I may well not have done a great job treating it, but I didn’t do a terrible job either. I went down at about 28 mph. He was probably doing over 40. His wounds looked way worse than mine.
It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that both he and Ulrich did poorly in the days after wiping out.
A friend of mine and I were talking about this very thing on our ride this morning. He and I have both crashed recently, his being far worse than mine. My tumble wasn’t too bad; I was only going about 15 mph at the time and the asphalt was very smooth. I sustained a minor patch of road rash on my left side, but my left palm ended up with a nasty cut. I had to ride about 40 miles home, and I didn’t feel good the rest of the ride or for a few days afterwards. A crash, even a minor one, can take quite a bit out of you. I don’t know how these guys ride like they do day and day out anyway – but to do it after crashing, sometimes on consecutive days, is amazing.
Glad you’re on the mend, Art. Sounds like you took a very hard fall.

Thanks for the kind words. I should be in one piece in time for Lake Placid.
My fall was nothing like these guys, but then they are half my age. I think that helps a bit.
Riders, I’m not paying attention the the riders, seeing those hunks of carbon on the ground, though, is going to give me nightmares.
I feel for the guy. I mean, it’s his first tour…not like he was planning to lead the GC the whole way…it just happened. Now everyone gives him shit for not riding like a seasoned pro. I’d say he had a great result for his first tour.
what is that rear hub on his bike?

Looks like a Zipp 220 hub.
Zipp Hub, I believe:
(here’s a 303 Hub)
.

That’s a 404 Classics wheelset for the cobbles, it has a modified 202 hub on it.
