Youtube help me PR the swim

What are some of the best youtube videos to help improve swim. Looking for ones that illustrate hand entry, kick, drills, high elbow, pull, hand exit, body position, rotation, etc.

Watching Grant Hackett swim 1500 is a pretty good start.

Watch the Olympic or US Olympic Trials footage. Watch those guys swim. That’s your best bet.

Otherwise, for best video, get David Marsh’s “Swimming Faster Freestyle”

x2 on the Grant Hackett videos. I also like Marc Evans’ high elbow video. It’s one thing to watch Hackett, but actually swimming like him is hard if you don’t know what he is doing. After watching the Marc Evans video it all clicked for me.

The best Grant Hackett video I found…

I’ve spent way too much time on youtube lately trying to help myself and my children. Go to the goswim channel. They have a lot of good stuff.

Plus, watching this Michael Phelps video makes me want to swim and I hate swimming. He is insane. Frankly, it reminds me more of nature videos of dolphins swimming than anything a human should be able to do.

He makes me think streamline and catch up with long smooth lines.

Check out Mr. Smooth on http://swimsmooth.com/. Not a video per se, but very cool computer animation.

I think that Marc Evans video is very good. Thanks. I did not know about it.

I think that visual is very poor. If you compare to optimal front crawl (i.e. Grant Hackett or the Olympic Trials on youtube) you will find that non of the swimmers allow their forearm and hand to go that deep - they have significantly more elbow bend and keep the hand and forearm closer to the body.

Also, have a look at the way the hand enters the water in the video. It should not be this careful and this will also put undue stress and fatigue on the shoulder joint.

Just my thoughts. I think it is much better to look at the best swimmers rather than a simulation. Slow motion of great swimmers delivers a great visual.

Do you have a link to the Marc Evans high elbow video? I tried google but nothing that looked relevant came up. Thanks

I’ve watched all those videos, of Phelps, of Hacket, of Evans, etc. Yes, very cool, but, won’t really help you to learning the “how”.

Seek out the drill videos. THe Best, IMO, Dave Scott’s! Anything from DS is top notch. Some other coaches are good too. Learn to do correct one-arms and catch-up. It will help for sure.

It’s starting to come together now.
