Everyday, there’s a few more threads on ST about how much WTC sucks, all WTC wants to do is make a buck, the races are too crowded, WAY too much drafting, and not enough event contigincy disclosure. Yes, this is all true. But if you’re going to bitch and moan so much, DON’T give them your money. It’s really that simple. It’s like you all stand in line knowing you’re paying $550 to get kicked in the nuts, and when you do, you complain. All of your complaints with WTC and specific races are par for the (WTC) course.
I happen to think they are a great company and put on awesome events. And from a business perspective, they’re pretty much doing it all right.
Never done an WTC race. Did a couple IMNA races and thought they were awesome. The best ones I have ever done by far. If the independent races did not suck they would get more than a couple hundred people. People bitch about everything. Best to just ignore them.
I don’t even know what the hell the WTC is…am I a hypocrite because I consider myself a multisport athlete but I haven’t done a WTC event? Or am I a hypocrite because I’d rather do a race like the American Zofingen or the Wilderness 101 because they’re a hell of a lot of fun and I just don’t care whether or not I’ve done a “real” Ironman. Don’t call us all out unless you know where we stand
There are a handful of people around here that jump into every thread remotely related to WTC and find the negative. There are a bunch of us that are fans and continue to do their races. I’m doing 2 this year.
It’s cool to hate big companys that dominate their markets. McDonalds, Walmart, Microsoft, Nike, etc. all get bashed when their names are brought up. We’re already seeing the shift from GM hate to Toyota hate.
Settle down Beavis – its just that time of the year. I am personally done until they fix the swim. Turning left 4 to 7 times with 3000 of your closest friends loses its appeal after a couple of times. I will never be more that a 1:10 swimmer which means I will always be a member of the aqua brawl. Ignoring that, they do a good job.

So…Andy( I only did that to piss of the anti “so” guy)A few questions. How long have you been around the lovely sport of triathlon? How long have you had an interest in Ironman’s in Nth America? How long do you think that it will take you to realise that there is a big difference in what is happening in M-dot racing now than a few years ago?
NAS(do you know who they are,or,used to be?)did an amazing job to expand the iroman experience.WTC has now taken that experience and made it totally a corporate enterprise with little regard to the spirit of Ironman.
In short WTC sucks dick and people likley will not realise it until they have sold it off to someone else for a major profit.
IMHO the current group who are at the helm of WTC do not give a shit about the sport of triathon they just hired a bunch of ex pros who do.
Okay I’m totally drunk and can you imagine how long it has taken me to correct every spelling mistake I have had to deal with for the last half hour.
It’s the right of every God Fearin’ American (or in this case Slowtwitcher) to do something and then bitch about doing it. That’s what makes Triathlon great.
Say what you will about us sir, but I won’t sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America

The US soccer team in Sth Africa are a bunch of girly,blouse-wearing,fancy pants!!!
So…I see many valid points. I apologize for calling out everybody on ST. I was not into triathlon 10 years ago, so I have not seen the change and how “corporate” the sport has become. I still say many are hypocrites. You say you want the sport to grow, but then complain about the big companies. Is the NBA a coropration? Yes, a damn fine one with an awesome product who is crushing the competitors (MLB). Same with the NFL. And if you don’t want the sport to grow because all you get are the people who walk the marathon and take the whole 17 hours, well then you are an elitist.
Whatever. It’s sad to me the non-pro 45 year old age grouper who lives the “triathlon lifestyle”. The one who makes everything in his life all about this sport. I’ll train my 15 hours, be healthy, spend some time at work on ST and race WTC. Call me a renaissance man, but I have a lot more going on in my life than this hobby.

I’ve been doing IMNA/NAS/WTC events for about 10 years. I haven’t seen this change in “spirit” you’re referring to. IMNA was certainly a for profit company. I’m ok with that.
BTW, WTC just gave $100,000 to oil spill relief efforts yesterday. I’m just waiting for someone to explain how this is just further evidence of their evilness.

No kidding. It’s like someone reading a bunch of anti-WTC threads and then complaining about them. But if you’re (not you specifically, of course) going to bitch and moan so much, DON’T read the threads. It’s really that simple.

I think it is great they did that. Truly. But do you think they would have done it if they didn’t have a race in Florida or somewhere where they are actually affected by the spill?
