Your town's 50 meters pool

I am curious… I haven’t seen many towns with a year around/lap swim accessible 50 meters pool. I think Las Cruces and The Woddlands is all I can think of. so tell me…

1- your city
2- where is the 50 meters pool?
3- Is it year around long course or seasonal long course?
4- Is it accessible to public? or do you need to be in the masters group?

For example, in cincy, the Marlins go long course from april-aug, rest of the year is SCY. We can’t go swim there unless with masters… Thanks

1- Huntington Beach Ca.
2- Fountain Valley
3- Long Summer MW /Winter MWF
4- No(club membership required)/No

  1. cincy 2. silverlake in northern kentucky 3. year round babe 4. public; although it might be required to go “with a member”, not sure.
  1. Colorado Springs
  2. 50 meter pools at US Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, Country Club of Colorado, US Olympic Center - none are really open to the general public.
  3. The pools at the Academy and Olympic Training Center are indoor and are usually long course year round.
  4. Swimming can be done at the Academy and Fort Carson if going with military people. The Country Club requires membership, although our tri club did work out a deal with them a few years ago, but that was for just one season. To my knowledge the OTC is only for their use.
  1. St. Catharines, ON
  2. about a :90 second walk from my office (Brock University)
  3. Year round in the mornings, usually switches to SCM around 8:30am
  4. Accessible to public (as long as they buy a membership-pretty cheap)

sileverlake is not year around, we tried going there in feb and it was set up short course:-)
.

  1. Denver, CO
  2. University of Denver Natatorium (Indoor)
  3. LCM in mornings (I believe), switch to SCY mid-day (I’m not sure if this is set in stone)
  4. $15 drop-in rates, or can have pool membership or be member of masters group.

I find it so hard to find a 50 meters pool that the public can use to go do lap swimming. I mean in any town.

santa fe, nm
genoveva chavez community center, southside
long course, Tues/Thurs, 6am-1pm, year round
public lap swimming
.

  1. San Diego
  2. Coronado Aquatic Center and SDSU Aquaplex (only two I’ve used so far)
  3. Coronado is year round but they change up schedules of when it is long or shortcourse. This is why I found SDSU which seems to stick to the same long course sched all year.
  4. Both have pay as you go or membership fees, whichever you prefer.

Calgary, Talisman Centre, Two 50m pools, one is set at 50m at least once a day, public - yes.

edit - also a 50m pool at U of C, but I’ve never been there and can’t comment other than that I believe it’s open to the public.

Pointe Claire Quebec
Long course for public lap swim year round.
Most of the others around here are short course for lap swim regardless of what the swim teams or masters are doing. I think a lot of people get freaked out with the idea of having to swim into a huge deep end.

We got lucky here 10 years back when the municipal pool here in Clinton, Iowa was replaced that a group of concerned citizens got together and made sure that as part of the project an 8 lane 50 meter pool was installed. While it is only open in the summer, for a town with only 27,000 people it sure is nice.

Toronto…

3 different pools
All Year round
The one I use is open to public morning, lunch and late evenings, University one has better opening times, altough you do have to pay a bit to use the facilities

  1. Boston/Cambridge
  2. MIT Zeiger Sports and Fitness Complex
3 Seasonal Long course May thru Labor Day.
    4.Yes/No

Harvard University has long course round I believe.

Victoria bc is the best place in the world… 3 50m pool with in 5km of each other…all open year long, long course everyday and open to public for lap swimming most of the day from 5:30am to 10pm.

i never seen anything like this anywhere else in the world… the second best place is Las cruces but only when Danny put the pool long course!!!

Pointe-Claire really? It’s indoor right? I wonder if it’s the same pool I swam in the provincial championniship when I was like 12 years old!!! I remember pointe claire having lots of nice long course summer pool as well.

Bloomington, IN - population 60k
50M indoor pool at IU, but its short course most of the winter - because who really wants to swim long course - short course rules!
Two 50M outdoor pools - one run by IU, lap swimming for a good 8 hours per day all summer, between 5-10 lanes, alwasy 50M. The second is more of a parks & rec pool - one lane for lap swimming - but your hand hits bottom when you swim!

1- Seattle, WA
2- West Seattle (10-15 minutes from Downtown)
3- Seasonal
4- Is it accessible to public? YES or do you need to be in the masters group? NO

Travis

Nashville, TN, about 20 min south indoors and year round. Usually only weekends for LC depends. I think it’s $3/day
