Gonna be based on personal preference and different feet shape.
For me, the Specialized S-Works road shoes have been by far my favorite (haven’t tried the latest model though).
Over the past few years I’ve tried - Rocket7, Bont A1, Bont Vapor, Bontrager carbon, Lake, Various Shimano, Sidi Ergo.
I have a wider foot. Both the Shimano’s and Specialized fit me pretty good, but the specialzied has a stiffer, better quality leather upper IMHO.
I’ve had quite a few over the years…the best by far for me are the Bont Vaypor
X2. I’ve used many of the top Euro shoes over the years, but in terms of stiffness, nothing comes close to my Bonts.

Bont by far. Any of them. I tried switching to my old Giro shoes for a week because I had a pair at home and couldn’t do it. I liked those giros a lot but nothing I’ve tried is quite like the bonts fit wise… And then there is the stiffness.
Sidi Wires. A bit pricey but fit me like a glove.
Sidi whore here… Got some newer Geniuses (v5?) and some older Geniuses (v2?), as well as Tri, MTB, and winter boot models. Tried several other brands over the years (Spec, Carnac, Northwave, Diadora, Lake, Answer) for one reason or another and can’t say they were bad shoes (i.e., poorly made or stupid designs) but none fit as well and I eventually ended up replacing with another pair of Sidis.
I’m a total shoe whore who has about 14 pair of shoes, road & tri, in the garage.
I like the S-Works from Specialized. I was all fired up to try the Bont Vaypor but I got the wrong size.
I really liked the older SIDI shoes but I spoke with a rep and he confirmed that they tweaked the last for the American market (ie they make shoes with more volume now).

Specialized S-Works Road (the new version) - great, but not that durable (I go through these every 18 months). I didn’t like Bonts personally (upper).
Sidis much more durable, but heavier and not quite as comfy/stiff for me, but this was my previous Ergo2s. The new wires are probably great since that would be a Sidi version of the S-works Road, but why spend the extra $ I figured …
S-Works 2013 model is da bomb. 10/10
Fizik R1 is pretty surprisingly great (current line, not the old line) 10/10
Fizik R3 also surprisingly impressive. 8/10
S-Works 2012 model is very good. 8/10
Mavic Zxellium 8/10
Giro Prolight SLX 8.5/10
Sidi Genius 6.6 8.5/10

Specialized Pro Road. Great alternative to the Sworks shoe if you don’t like the boa or the higher price. Be sure to try them on though. They fit differently to both my Sidi tri shoes and my Scott MTB shoes.
