Your bike IS covered under warranty for use on an indoor trainer

Edit 12/4/2008- Here is the original trainer/warranty post going back quite a while. Be advised that since this information is dated, it may no longer be accurate. The reason for posting it again is two fold:

1. The question is a recurrent one with every trainer season.
**2. It’s a good question to ask and begs at least some kind of response. **

This is how urban legends, mall stories and other misinformation spreads on the internet. Several threads have discussed warranty policies and indoor trainer use.

I invested some time this afternoon in response to these threads investigating this information on the basis of fact. These are the **facts **that I learned in conversation with the following parties:

Felt: Trainer use **does not **void normal warranties. Bicycles are covered under normal use warranty for trainer use.
I spoke with Scott at Felt.

Cervelo: Trainer use **does not **void normal warranties. Bicycles are covered under normal use warranty for trainer use.
I spoke with Bill in customer service at Cervelo.

**Quintana Roo: **Trainer use **does not **void normal warranties. Bicycles are covered under normal use warranty for trainer use. I spoke with Trey at Quintana Roo.

**Guru: **Trainer use **does not **void normal warranties. Bicycles are covered under normal use warranty for trainer use. I spoke with Michael at Guru.

**Scott USA: **Trainer use **does not **void normal warranties. Bicycles are covered under normal warranty for trainer use.
I spoke with Kelly O, outside sales rep for Scott.

**Kuota: **Trainer use **does not **void normal warranties. Bicycles are covered under normal warranty for trainer use.
I spoke with Paul Thomas at Kuota.

Thanks for this Tom. I have put about 2,000 Kms on my trainer since Hawaii and will be putting another 4,000-5,000 Kms before the spring and it’s good to know my bike is covered (although I thought that it would be anyway).

It’s my pleasure and my business. There is a natural tendancy for people to latch oonto the worst possible (mis)interpretation and, in fairness, a healthy amount of bike companies trying to limit their exposure to spurious warranty claims.

It’s important to verify information before posting or suggesting it. With the power of the Internet and Internet forums even *suggesting *something can soon adopt the weight of fact when even slightly embellished.

7000km on a trainer this winter!!! I know it’s cold in Ottawa but that’s a lot of hours (~250) of hard time in the saddle. Hasn’t Dev taught you how to ski
Good for you Konaexpress I have a feeling it’s that sort of discipline that earned you your handle.

Here’s a bump on the prevous trainer post.
Do be advised this post is now 2 years old and information may or may not have changed since its original date.
