Your approved hot sauces

I watched an episode of First We Feast where they were eating some Pepper Xs. Pretty hot pepper and funny episode.

Skip ahead to the 10:30 mark to see them actually eating it.

I don’t buy sauces with references to ass burn in the title, on principle. We get it already.

My current rotation remains unchanged for years. Gringo Bandito Extra Hot and Tabasco Scorpion.

I think most people don’t realize Da Bomb is basically an extract and not a sauce. It’s more or less like spraying OC CapStun in your mouth. It’s nowhere near as hot as a Reaper or Pepper X based sauce on a Scoville level but it hits completely different… in a bad way.

I tried it once. It’s horrible.

Pussy!

Veering slightly off topic…

The two hottest things I’ve ever eaten were the Paqui One Chip Challenge and a Reaper Tender from Dave’s Nashville Hot Chicken.

The Paqui chip was brutal. First, it tastes horrible. The Carolina Reaper, on top of being obnoxiously spicy hot, tastes awful. The chip was heavily coated in Reaper dust. The lips, mouth, tongue, and throat burning lasted for almost an hour. Miserable as hell but went away. The real problems occurred about 45 minutes after eating it when my digestive system went into full on revolt. I started sweating profusely, felt like I was going to shit and vomit at the same time, my stomach muscles kept seizing up like I was using a TENS machine, and I basically started hallucinating. I had to have my wife put cold wet blankets on me while I laid on the cool tile floor in my master bathroom. I came real close to having my wife take me to the ER. But I was like, “This is a dumb fucking way to end up in the hospital” so I manned up and rode it out.

I think they stopped making the One Chip Challenge chip because someone died after eating it.

The Reaper Tender was almost as bad the the Paqui chip from burning my head off but didn’t give me all the bad after effects. My son did spend a couple of minutes vomiting though.

As the saying goes, if you’re gonna be dumb, you better be tough.

I’d say you met the challenge.

I can’t be the only one that gets less tolerant of spicy foods, gastrointestinally speaking, as I get older. To the point where regular level hot wings are the sweet spot for me. I was never a habanero fan (citrusy flavor turn off, mostly) but the closer I got to that level heat the better. Now anything above regular hot wings hot and my system revolts.

Interesting. It is the reverse for me.
I used to be a wuss with hot food, but my tolerance is now pretty high. I always put it down to sensory cells dying off as I age.

That’s what I’ve gathered about the Hot Ones sauces as well, though allegedly the original Last Dab had some flavor. But they’d just come off Da Bomb so you’d imagine licking a sulfuric acid popsicle probably would have tasted palatable at that point.

What about chili crunch. What’s your favorite? Mine is MoMofuko.

We had a couple here who made their own and sold it at the farmers market. Way better than Momofuku. Lots of people also having an issue with him because he wanted to trademark chili crisp, which is bullshit.

Unfortunately, the couple got to a point where they either had to scale up or stop and so they have stopped making theirs. Luckily, I still have some, but I’m going to have to find a new brand. Or I may try making my own.

Re Momofuku:

David Chang’s company, Momofuku, sent cease and desist notices to small, independent companies using the terms “chili crunch” and “chile crunch” on their products, which Chang’s lawyers argued infringes on Momofuku’s trademark rights. This led to a backlash against Chang and his company, with many people in the food industry believing the term is too generic to trademark. In response, Chang and Momofuku CEO Marguerite Mariscal said the company would back away from enforcing its chili crunch trademark.

Good to know. I’ll have to find another brand. I can go through a jar in a week.

What do you use it on? I have to assume everything.

You got that right. I put it on everything. I can not get enough heat.

After rereading this thread I decided to give Valentina a try. Used it on my eggs and hash browns this morning. Good stuff. It’s now part of the rotation.

Yellow Bird has a variety of tasty sauces.
Since they are from the BBQ and taco capital of the universe, Austin, you jnow it must be good.

I have yet to try Dexter’s Gringo Bandito sauce but glad to see some endorsements here. Thats pretty fly.

Give it to me, baby!!!

I love this stuff

The best all-purpose sauce I’ve tried, and there’ve been a lot.

Da bomb is legitimately disgusting. Way hot a d taste is horrid.

Some of the milder Hot Ones sauces are actually really good, like top tier sauce for me. I’ve finally started seeing them in grocery stores.
