You want inspiration---look here

I think most here are familiar with the Rick and Dick Hoyt story. I had an amazing opportunity to talk with these 2 studs at Timberman this past weekend. I hadn’t seen their website before—most inspiring site I think I’ve ever seen.

Take a look at this:

I can’t read that because I’ll start crying again. They seem like such incredible people.

Did you see that Rick (who has CP and is nonverbal) graduated from Boston University??? He’s the real deal. This is a perfect example of how someone with an intensive disability can still meet his/her goals in life. Most people tend to set the bar way too low for folks like Rick. It’s only when someone like Dick and his family believe in someone like Rick and keep the bar high. Way to go.

Such an amazing story, these two are simply incredible.

Here is the caption from a poster that was made for them

How do you define ‘Father’? It’s simple. You take Dick Hoyt’s picture and put it in the dictionary and let the rest of the world follow his lead. When he was told by doctors to put his son, Rick, in an institution, he refused. Instead Dick and Rick have spent their lifetimes together traveling the world and inspiring everyone they meet. Father of the century? No question about it…

Ditto …

When I was in High School our validictorian, had a brain anerysm(sp) and lost all ability to function and speak. He spent the next 5-7 years relearning everything. Finally ended up graduating from Standford. Was amazing to hear his story at our 20 year reunion and he wrote a book about his experience.

you mean Stanford?

my fat fingers at work again - Yes Stanford
.

While I raced Timberman, my wife was part of a crew filming the Hoyts for an upcoming documentary. Being from Massachusetts, we’ve had several occasions to meet both Rick and Dick. However my wife came away from this experience with a whole new respect for both of them. I’ll post info on the video when it becomes available.
