Ok, so here’s the deal. I live in Kaneohe,Hawaii. My dream was to go to Kona this year just to watch and take in the scene(I am a few years away from qualifying). I have been talking to my wife the last few months trying to figure out how we can make it work. I am lucky enough to have 3 kids(22 month,3 yr, 12 yrs)and a great wife. So anyways, it’s a lot to ask my family to go somewhere so I can do something I really love for the whole day and they basically have no interest in(other than the fact that there crazy dad does tri’s) while they stay at the hotel. This can be esp. hard on the wife because she has to handle the kids while I am away playing.( I love my kids, but a 2 and 3 year old at the same time can be very daunting to say the least-esp. outside the comfort of your home). So, I basically write the whole idea off for the sake of family unity and knowing that I will be able to go another time-most likely when the kids are older and easier to handle. So, today’s my birthday and my wife surprises me with a trip to Kona for the whole family and her blessings for a full day of Ironman. Of course, we will be staying at the Hilton Waikaloa-so she won’t be altogether roughing it. To me this is the best gift I could have asked for and my family is stoked to be going. So I ask you, am I the luckiest dork around or what?
Sweet!
I’m the luckiest though. I’m single, I don’t have any kids, and I’m a college student. I’m FREE.
Right on! Free is good. However, I would not trade my family and the joy the give me for any amount of freedom.
If you enjoy family so much, I have a wife and child for you…
I’m only kidding (or so my wife tells me to type.
That is an awesome hotel! My wife and I enjoyed it very much there in '03 - bring your bike and head up the Queen K to Hawi as you are right along the coast. Great Spa as well for her. Really cool kids day camp as well.
