You know it's going to turn bad when

…you’re heading out for a 3 hour easy ride with a couple buddies and the tailwind has you going 34 mph without even trying (i.e. 115 - 120 HR). Do that for an hour-and-a-half, knowing exactly what will happen the second you turn around but wanting to delay it as long as possible.

Turn around and BAM! There’s the Perfect Storm, well, this was the Perfect Headwind. Like Satan himself blowing into your face. Straight on, consistent 35-40 mph wind with gusts to 50+ mph. Trade off 5-minute pulls at 184 HR and move along at 14-15 mph for the better part of 2.5 hours. One of my buddies was blown over by one gust - some road rash but nothing too bad. One well-timed gust would have stopped me in my tracks as I pulled over an overpass - out of the saddle in the drops going as hard as I could and doing 5 mph. My other buddy (not the one that crashed) called me this morning to tell me that his entire body was sore.

Don’t you just love spring?

My favorite is trying to get down Mt. Diablo before the rain starts.

We apparently had an 85 mph gust last night up on top of South Mountain! My neighbor is into that stuff and has some kind of weather tracking device. Glad I wasn’t out there with ya on that one!

That’s insane.

good stuff. my guess is the tram was closed.

last month i was riding my road bike across the floating bridge in seattle. i had just picked up my hed alps and was riding them back to my apartment. the crosswind on the bridge was only 30 mph, gusting to 40 mph, but with the aero wheels i was just waiting for a strong gust to pick me up and lift me over the railing. not fun.
