how many folks are out there that take any kind of medication for any mental, emotional, depressive, and/or psychological disorder and that also own (or have easy access to) weapons capable of easily killing a large number people at one time?

I’ve heard that as many as 25% of the American population is mentally unstable. I don’t know if that is true, and the percentage sure seems low to me. Many persons that should be on medication are not, and it is not against the law for some nut case to own a gun.

We had a case here where a mentally ill man had several assault weapons. He shot his mother and then in a standoff with police killed an officer and wounded several others. They had confiscated the guns prior to this incident but there was no law to prevent him from owning them as he had not comitted a crime. They returned the guns and later he went berzerk.

The state senate later passed a bill named after the officer which allows law enforcement officers to seize a firearm possessed by an individual whom the officer reasonably believes to be dangerous.

Such an easy target. You might want to consider something. Its not the meds that make people with mental illness irratic most of the time. Its the fact that they don’t take their meds. So unless we want to start assigning babysitters to each mentally ill person to insure that they continue to take their meds, its possible for these type of things to happen. Sounds like a nice little addition to either Hillary’s or Obama’s big government healthcare plan. Government babysitters for everybody. They can make sure we take our meds, eat right, drive the right cars etc etc.
In the end, it still comes down to personal responsibility of the person that should be taking their meds.
