Y'ever analyzed "cost per mile/hour" of the events we do?

I did a 24 hour xc-ski race that cost $0.18/km. That’s what I’m talking about. Value!!

chicago lakefront 50/50
$30 for 50 miles
www.chicagoultra.org
.

Cyclocross ~ $60/hr
Post-race cyclocross = priceless

AR50 ~ $10.83 (if you take the full 12 hours)

CIM marathon–they should pay US to do that stupid race.

I did a “3 peaks” run in wellington. The route I took was about 18 miles. Since it cost 5 bucks (NZ to boot) I would put that at 28 NZ cents per mile.

So the take home message is this: If you want value for your endurance racing dollar, slow the hell down…

Just think how cheated the 2:05 marathon runners must feel knowing that their shoe company paid all that money for just a couple hours of running.

Now the 7 hour walkers, they really get some bang for the buck.

The Basic Boulder Mountain Marathon is free. Tough to beat that.

American Zofingen, 104 miles for $95 = $0.91 / mile. Early entrants only paid $0.72 / mile.

Compared to when I was racing sailboats… the cost is close to nil

Indoor track meet at $10/event…

50 m = $321.85/mile
That’s why I run the 5000 m…much better deal at $3.11/mile.

Gee, and I thought marathons and tris were getting expensive…

Sandy Hook TT (USACycling time trial). 7 miles, $27 + $10 one day license:

$5.28/mile, $126.85/minute @24mph. No support or amenities whatsoever (not even trash cans).

(edit)

If you want real value (not) for your money, do the 50 free at a masters swim meet. $10 surcharge, $5/event:

$528/mile, $2160/hour @ :25/50yds.

$2.88/mi…~$19.75/hour]
You have marathons that cost less and some that cost over $100
$3.92/mi…~$44/hour]
Triathlon You can easily bring the cost down with “Indy IM” @ about $300/$350

Fred.

I already know it is too expensive, no reason to prove it. :o(

Dave

what about travel expenses to get to the race vs. the race distance?

It could be worse

Lapdance $30 for 4 minutes and the most you travel is 6 inches.

Unless the event is local, the entries fees are usually the least of your worries. Try doing IM CDA and having to fork out 2 grand for loging. Plus airfare, plus car rental, plus gift for wife to smooth things over.

I’ll second keeldragger on that!

$85 for double century?? What to you get for that?
.

Geeze… I thought this was going to be a discussion about cost per mile per hour. Maybe we don’t want to go there.

I love it!

so you could train all year, trying to get the cost over $1/second in the 100!
