So it exists because I have pictures. I drove to Austin from Houston over the weekend to pick it up. It was pure torture while it sat dismantled in my brother-in-law’s lake house while I water skied and jet skied all weekend long. The roads are pretty crappy where he lives and quite narrow, so I just took it for a ride about an hour ago (besides the 10 minute ride I took in Austin at the LBS).
Thanks to Don Ruthvan, F.I.S.T. certified fitter and owner of Austin Tri Cyclist, who got me the bike within 2 or 3 weeks of my initial contact and worked with me to add my Hed S-bends and let me add Compact Cranks and my spare bike seat.
And extra Kudos to Don for letting my 5 kids terrorize his place of business. Heck he even provided 2 little playmates for them too (his 2 very cute little daughters).
Terk happened to be at the shop and joked how he Don and I were members of the P3C club.
I can’t believe how comfortable it rides and how easily it seemed to accelerate. Not that my Felt DA was bad, but this is soooo much better. I am truely a convert. My brother in law couldn’t believe how much someone would pay for a bike. He changed his tune when we “happened” to be watching the TDF and he saw what the winner was riding :). How’d you like to watch the Indy or Daytona 500’s and say “yeah, I own those very same cars!”
Please no comments about the slanted saddle nor the width of the aero bars nor the drop of the bars. They were all measured and are at the right position for me. Likewise I know my garage door is dented, the sidewalk is dirty,…
I’m coming over next week when I get back from San Antonio to trip that machine of yours. So get it ready for me. By the way is that a crack in your driveway slab?
Thanks for noticing my driveway crack - I’ll get right on it.
Just so you know, you were the inspiratiojn for this bike, although I don’t think I’ll repaint it. Did you notice the compact cranks? - Yeah, I stole that little idea from you. I could have really used them on 1/2 my races this year instead of that frigg’in 42 I have for a small ring!
You’ll also get a chance to see it at J&B’s Tri if you are going to be there. You can even take it for a test ride if you promise to give it back.
The bars are a lot wider than my other set up, but Don thought it would work. My shoulder’s are wide enough such that I don’t think there will be an aero advantage by narrowing them some more.
Your cables are run incorrectly on those bars. There is a slot underneath in the extension hardware for you to run that cable through. No need for zip ties.
