Yellowstone...bears

With all the crazy garb, you look like a rodeo clown on wheels.

That’s gold, Jerry! I think that’s how motorists view us.

From talking with friends, that’s exactly how they view us. And then there’s the problem of “target fixation.” Essentially, you drive right at what has your attention.

that’s precisely why it’s great to have a matte black frame and wear all black while riding!

Seriously? You are afraid of bears while road riding?

You probably shouldn’t leave your house.

you wouldn’t want to be on a lightweight carbon bike at 1:05 in this video.

But not to worry, it wasn’t in Yellowstone, it was another park, so you’ll be good!

Bison vs a different kind of bike

Just follow the warnings and information on this sign.

I’ll echo the RV comments. It can be gnarly. Ride early, seems everyone sleeps in. In teton there is a bike path that parallels the park road a good ways and was just recently resurfaced (butter smooth) in late September. The road to the NE entrance is DEAD. Barely anyone out there (Lamar Valley). Also riding up to Beartooth pass outside the park is crazy sweet. If the traffic starts wearing on you…the views should make you feel better.

im seriously concerned…im doing a bike vacation up at yellowstone next summer. anybody ever ridden out there? some good riding im hoping but my serious concern is that a 10 foot tall grizzly is going to walk out on the road and destroy me. also heard the buffalos can be aggressive there. thanks for any info and that is my first stop i also share the same concern for my second stop up in glacier national park. thanks yall

If you are really nervous, try Bear Spray (http://www.yellowstone-bearman.com/b_spray.html). Yes, I am being serious. It is even more effective than a gun against grizzlies. I researched this while planning some hikes in bear country. http://www.yellowstone-bearman.com/b_spray.html

And just FYI that momma bear can run upwards of 35mph when pissed. I’m sure you’ll be fine, but might wanna up your interval work just in case :stuck_out_tongue:

If a bear is on the road, scoop up the cub and then discover your max wattage.

Be wary of bison, bears aren’t a threat for you. If they’re around I’d suspect there would be ‘bear jams,’ with the car traffic. My concern would be riding on roadways packed with distracted motorists.

Ride safe.

Tie a couple of raw pork chops around your waist. the fresh meat smell may keep the Buffalo away.

Or, since the tourists seem to be a bigger concern, tie some lettuce leaves to your jersey. We all know how much 'merican’s hate salad. But then you may attract the bison :stuck_out_tongue:
