Yakima rack parts. What are these?

Sorry, no pics, but can someone tell me what these are and what they are used for?

I picked up a set of Yak roof rack’s at one my local thrift stores for $8.00. They included two of these things: Imagine an inverted “V” of round tubing, with each bottom of the piece attaching to the load bar with the usual attachment mechanism that you would see on the bottom of a bike tray etc. THus, one of these inverted “V”'s on each load bar.

I checked Yak’s website and they don’t show up as either a bike, water or cargo product.

I don’t need them, and will look to get rid of them, but need to know what the hell they are first!

Thanks for any help.

If the piece is about 6-10 inches long, it is a rear wheel holder. They haven’t sold those in years.

Every see the Three Stooges episode where they are plumbers? That is a Yakima roof rack.

How big are they? Kind of sounds like the canoe/kayak holders I see on lots of cars where I live in upstate New York. Not the “normal” style that the load sits “level” in but these hold in in an angled way so you can get more on one rack. They are probably 15" long (high). I know you said you looked on Yakima’s site but you sure this isn’t it?

Nope, not those. These fit what I would describe as parallel to the load bar.

I’ll have to snap some pics I guess.

Hmmm. I could see this as a rear wheel holder if used instead of a tray, wherein the rear wheel sort of nestles into the groove, but there is no strap or anything to prevent the wheel hopping up and down if the ride is bumpy. But, I’ve never seen anything like it, especially without a fork mount or frame clamp or something.

I’ll snap some pics this weekend and try to post.

Like this? What do I get if I win? I’m out of ideas after this…sorry.

You get my undying gratitude and 10% of whatever I can sell them for. That should get you excited if they are a much-coveted discontinued gem from Yakima!

So, I sold Yakima racks and accessories for years…

They have gone through many iterations of bike mount in an effort to find the perfect blend of simplicity and strength.

The inverted V system has been used variously to grab the down tube (it would have jaws) or go over a rear wheel (has a threaded clamp like deal to hold the rim).

You could contact Yakima and ask; they were very top notch in the customer service arena in my day. Maybe they still are.

Cool, I’ll take some photos and drop them an email if the STNation can’t come up with the answer first. I’m confident a photo will jog someone’s memory here.

Thanks…T
