I rarely post, but thought that if any of you are racing Tahoe City Xterra you might want to bring swim booties. I was at Lake Tahoe 2 weeks ago and tried to swim at Cannon Beach, the swim start. It was a hike just to get to water that I could swim in. The lake is low and you have to walk at least 300yds just to get to swim. Even then, you will be touching rocks with your hands. I e-mailed the race director and he told me there are no changes to the venue.
The rocks were also extremely difficult to walk on in bare feet. This is just an FYI
Thanks for the update. I am surprised that the lake is that low. Swam at Donner Lake a few weeks ago and it was the same as always. I raced Monte Rio /Russian River and I lost probably a minute due to walking/stumbling on Rocks etc.
Not much the RD can do.
Commons Beach is already a shallow beach. Add to that a low snow year and even a foot drop makes that area really shallow. Agreed there is little RD can do, but I am not sure they realize how far out that shallow bottom goes. It will be interesting how much swimming can be done once you factor in the beach run. Oh well, it is Xterra and for me it is all about the bike, and it is in Tahoe. Does not get much better, well except for Maui
