Xterra Milwaukee

I’m interested in the Xterra in WI in July but I can’t find much info about the bike course other than “The bike trail ventures down a long surrendered railway bed that literally bisects the city as it travels parallel to the Milwaukee River.” Doesn’t sound too fun. Yet on Xterra’s website they post “The mountain bike take them along the west side of the river and loops back through some very rugged trails.” Which is it? Also, any climbing/descending of note?

Thanks in advance,

don’t know personally but try posting on the Xterra forum. I’m sure the topic will come up shortly before the race on the Xterra forum anyways regardless of whether you post or not. Some good info there although no where near as many people as here.

You got any inside info on the Richmond course? I’m headed out there next week for the race. Anyways good luck with Milwaukee. I think one or two of our Hawaii guys and the girl, I rode a bit with this morning is going.

the guy doing the bike course is a super-mtn bike-trail advocate. he can be found on the forums at

www.wors.org

the state mtn bike series site, under the moniker " heybeerman ". do a post there under the non-wors event section, and he will get back to ya.

my understanding is the trails are a bunch of more or less renegade and/or urban riverfront singletrack, being linked together into a cohesive loop for the first time. ya got city, business, private landowners etc in the mix. if anybody can pull it off in style it is gonna be heybeerman.

There are two trails on the Milwaukee river. I lived a few blocks away for a few years and rode the trails quite a bit. There is a higher trail…the old railroad bed, then a small, single track below it that is next to the river. The single track does have some tough sections, and there are a few places it splits off and rejoins. Hopefully, they mark the course well. I mainly rode the section betwen the KK bridge, up to I-43.
