Hi all!
Curious to know if anyone knows what the bike course will be like for XTERRA Miami. I live in richmond, va and have been training here all winter in my Singlespeed. Love it so much that I don’t want to get off it. ![]()
My question is would it be in my interest to bring the Single Speed to this race as opposed to my Specialized Epic Dual Susp? I’m running a 16 TOOTH rear cog and will keep it that way. The only thing I’m worried about are if there are any long open straight roads.
Any thoughts, ideas, or recommendations?
Thanks!!
The words “Xterra” and “Miami” just sound mutually exclusive to me. How can you have an Xterra in a pancake flat, concrete jungle area? Now maybe if they added gator infested swamps that would make up for it…
LOL!! Yeah man…I know… they claim it’s one of the most challenging in the XTERRA circuit. What??? This is why I’m scratching my head wondering what bike to bring. I’m using it as a tune up race and a reason to go to Miami.

you can read about the trails here:

.
There’s likely not much elevation change, but likely a lot of loose sand and perhaps logs. It could still be challenging even if flat. Keep in mind that the downside to no uphills is no downhills. It will be more of a solid continuous effort like a road triathlon. A lot of the MTBers that travel there from hillier areas may not be used to constant power output.
Have fun!
Bring your mountain bike. The course is flat but very technical, lots of exposed roots, tree stumps, narrow trails. Depending on how the organizers design the course you may not have a lot of straight roads or none at all. The web page describe the course as a rollercoaster so I would not expect that much open space.
