Just wanted to drop the word that our new XTERRA Triathlon and Running weekend has been approved and will take place in Lake Placid. XTERRA Lake Placid will be held on the wekend of August 21, 22 and 23. Saturday the 22nd will be a 5k and 10k trail run and Sunday will be a Long Course XTERRA Triathlon, 1500 meter swim, 25k mtn bike and 10k run.
Now before everyone flames about the poor choice of weekend this is the only date we had an option with from the LPVCB, so if you can’t make it this year put it on your calendar for 2010. We will have a Prize purse for the Triathlon and most likely for the runs too. Still working on that.
Website will be done by this weekend. www.XTERRALakePlacid.com and Registration will open on February 1st.
I did an Xterra 10k last season and had a blast. Might get some friends together and make it up to LP for this with some people doing the running races and some doing the tris. Awesome.
Btw, what am I missing? What is poor about the choice of that weekend? Is it Timberman or something?
JP,
Outstanding! Can’t make it this year (IMCAN) but we will be in for 2010. If it is half as fun as your Onteora race it will still be a blast. I’m currently in Rocky Balboa training in order to win the pushup contest after the race. Where will the courses be in LP?
Thanks,
Kevin
In addition to the push up contest at Onteora, I have another lil contest in the works…the pb&j relay. I used to do this at the camp when I was director at the waterfront with the scouts. Can’t wait to see how people do with it. haha.
LP info - Swim is in Mirror Lake, the oval will host the transition area and village, the bike course will be down on golf course and private land and the run will be behind the high school on private land.
I rode the bike course last November and it’s challenging but fair…at least I think so. I’ll have maps on the site and more detailed maps and elevation guides in the spring once the snow melts up there.
JP,
Thanks for the info…I’m not sure how to train for the PBJ relay.
I’m seriously considering doing LP during my IMCAN taper now. Who am I kidding…I’m in!
Kevin
Congratulations! This sounds like a great race. Also sounds like I have some tough choices to make in a crowded race calender. This is one week before Tetsuioni’s Devil’s Kitchen Tri; the race that most of us in the Catskill region have been dreaming of. But, I have that new Niner that I am dying to race. My 59 yr old legs can’t handle all the races I’d like to do this year. Decisions, decisions, decisions.
I just booked my room at the Marriott Courtyard. Looks nice. Looks like the Marriott in Tahoe. I love Lake Placid. Haven’t been there since '99 for IM and the only reason I did that race was because I wanted a reason to go back to Lake Placid back then. Man, I can’t wait to be back there.
