Xterra and their East Championship presenting sponsor Luck Stone are trying out some live streaming coverage of this weekend’s race in Richmond, Virginia. They’re starting with a first-ever “Pro Relay Shootout” on Thursday at noon, which will be a 15-minute mini Xterra with five teams of pros, including some of the best in the sport (and some others, such as myself). If you haven’t done this race, this is a great opportunity to get a flavor for how unique the venue is – a swim in the James River, a bike on a suspended pedestrian bridge and on a pump track (not on the regular course!), and a short run past one of downtown Richmond’s most impressive mural walls.
Live streaming will be available on www.xterra.luckstone.com on Thursday at noon for the pro relay and on Sunday at 8am for the championship race.
I’m not sure what the extent of the coverage will be on Sunday, given the challenges of broadcasting live from the woods, but expect some stationary camera feeds from points along the course as well as an aerial drone.
