Xoc triathlon Sesimbra

A question for the Portuguese ST crew.

Any of you guys heard of or done this race (http://www.xoctriathlon.com/en/info.htm)?

There’s not a lot of information on the site as yet but most of the English pages seem to have been autotranslated by google or similar which doesn’t help i.e. Council of Sesimbra, limited to North by the of the Seixal, to nascent by the of Setúbal and to south and west by the Atlantic Ocean. They constitute in the three clienteles: Santiago, Castle and Farm of the Count, by the which itself divide unevenly the 206 Km2 of their total area.

To orografia, the sea, the even when wild climate, believed here a majestic landscape, of big beauty, that will be able to admire the observer with artistic sensibility, but itself will know to find the ideal angles for the savor; and there is so many: of the Castle itself will want to have this monument as majestic in the foreground; of the Cliff, of the Fortress of the Horse, of the Beam or of Palames. And then, will see: A welcoming inlet, contoured by imposing cliff that is opened where is installed the settlement; cabeços and platforms design exquisite skyline and, in the more elevated point, are implanted the walls, the turrets, to alcáçova, that sheltered and defended an extinct medieval borough that looks still Iá be.

And, it encourage this complex and beautiful setting (that will be one of the most beautiful one of the Portuguese coast) in whose assembly did not intervene landscape artists, town planners or wise experts in tourism, the shoal, in the waters of the inlet and of the underlying sea, formed for two social and functional classes of embarkations: to of the fishermen and to of the tourists and sportsmen

Also, any idea what the nearest international airport to Sesimbra would be and how close it would be? Secondly it seems there is a huge surcharge for non-portuguese athletes:

**Portuguese athletes **

PROMOTION* (for the first 50 registration till December 31, 2006*): €25,00

'till March 31, 2007: € 35,00

'till June 30, 2007: € 40,00

'till September 02: € 45,00

Non-portuguese athletes:

PROMOTION* (for the first 50 registration till December 31, 2006*): €40,00

'till March 31, 2007: € 50,00

'till June 30, 2007: € 55,00

'till September 02: € 60,00 Any idea why this would be? Are they actively trying to keep foreign athletes away from the races? Obrigada.

Julian,

As you are one of my favorite posters here, I will help you out. Send “sedi” or “Migalhas” a PM about this, they’re always on top of all the race happenings over in there in the old country. Sesimbra is a small fishing village about 30min south of Lisbon, it is very easy to get there.

Thanks, PAulo. I shall do that. Are you back home now or still “travelling”?

Home is where my laptop is.

Good answer.

Check your PMs.

Sesimbra is BEAUTIFUL! If I remember correctly, this is close to it. If I’m not, Paulo will let you know.

Very nice, Cathy. How did you get there?

You are 100% right, as usual!

Very nice, Cathy. How did you get there?

Thanks!

Paulo drove. It was about an hour or so?

If I go to Sesimbra I will have to watch out for the dessert trolley, the Portuguese do the best desserts!

Pasteis de Nata are delicious.

As long as it’s after the race!

As we say here: “On race day (after the race of course) you can eat whatever you want!”

Sounds a good plan to me!

On top of that, you’ll still find a country that follows Chelsea like it was a portuguese club. What else more would you want…?

Hmm, getting better and better!

Check your PMs.

I want to do this tri this year - but this year there’s even less info online and xoctriathlon.com is down, or at least unreachable from my PC

Unfortunaly I’m new here and can’t send PMs - so can anyone post some info here? Is the race still on for this year? Where do I register!

Thanks a lot… and maybe see some of you in September

This is so old that I almost didn’t remember about it.
The race is no longer on, sorry for this.

We do have several triathlon races, from sprint to oly, one duathlon and one off-road tri which is raced both in Portugal and Spain.

Let me know if you need any further details.

Cheers!

Ah, too bad :frowning:

What attracted me to this event is that it’s off-road (I currently ride a mountain bike) and it’s in September. If you know of another event that has some off-road on it’s cycling section and is between September and November I’d be keen to join
