X-Games - Big Air = Big Slam (Video)

You just gotta watch this fall…it was last night…luckily he got up and walked away.

I watched that like 10 times earlier, thats fing crazy.

yeah…we were watching it live…and we just stared at the tv like OMG did that just happen
.

we were watching it live too. we just kept rewinding it while they were on the commercial break the whole time he was down, and our conclusion was that he might be dead. he is so lucky that his feet hit first. that sport is just insane!

I can’t believe his shoes come off… That is such a bizarre thing… It reminds me (since he got up and walked away) of the Jerky Boys “he said some very mean things to me, then I fell down the stairs, and my shoes came off…”

He wasn’t using newtons
.

If they had the balls to run a picture of him hitting the deck and his shoes flying off with the tagline, “He wasn’t wearing Newtons,” then I would DEFINITELY buy a pair!

liver and lung contusions, fractured vertabrae and wrist. better to be lucky than smart I guess.

How did he NOT destroy his ankles??? After the shoes came off, it looked like “Misery”!!!

“That’s the definition of ‘ragdoll’”

Good lord. That man should be dead.

I devoted a solid 20 minutes looking for the extent of his injuries in the news today and came up short. Thanks for the info.
I was literally speechless watching that last night. The announcers essentially were, too.
I been hurt bad before and it ain’t no fun.
While it wasn’t the most graceful thing ever, these guys are better at falling than the average cat. That being said, 40+ to flat-bottom…uh…

How did he NOT destroy his ankles??? **

That, I have no answer for.

The LA times is covering the x games as it’s at staples center. They still have a headline up but the link is now broken :frowning:

While it’s still fresh in my head…
I’ve never skated, so I can’t speak specifically here. On the snow, however, 40 feet is kind of a magic distance at which things get taken a little more seriously. No reason to delve into the math, but speed’s relationship with height has a corollary to consequences’ relationship with height.

Of course, bad things can happen from any height, but in my mind, Jake was especially lucky to walk away from something over 40 feet.

those guys carry their balls in wheelbarrows!

can you imagine being the guy who had to go next? it would take some serious stones to drop in after seeing that!

I can’t believe the idiots let him get up. He should have been duct taped
to a board and taken to ER. Complete incompetence. Very cool to watch
in slowmo.

Saw it live. Has to be one of my Top5 wipeouts (from any sport)! I was SHOCKED that he was able to stand up. I, too, think he never should have been allowed to do so. Neck collar, backboard, stretcher, emer. room. And I swear they gave him extra points for presentation!

That was unreal. When I saw it, I nearly yelled. All my kids were asleep, and my wife would have been very mad. I saw it live and it was all I could do not to yell. It hurt me. I’m totally amazed he’s not dead. There was another big crash during BMX practice the day before that resulted in a broken collar bone. Did y’all see that one?

from LA Times:

"Skateboarder Jake Brown, whose 45-foot free-fall Thursday night brought a hush to the crowd at Staples Center, remains hospitalized after suffering bruises of the liver and lung, stress fractures in his vertebrae and a small fracture on the top of one hand.

Brown, 32, who was injured during the big air competition on the mega-ramp during a silver medalist performance, is expected to be released from the hospital today or Sunday and make a full recovery.

“Doctors said there was no paralysis or anything like that,” said Bryce Kanights, team manager for Adidas, which is among Brown’s corporate sponsors.

Kanights was critical of X Games medical personnel for not immobilizing Brown immediately and placing him in a stretcher.

A hospital spokesman refused to discuss Brown’s condition."

Being hit by a car would have more damage.

I don’t see what’s the big deal - Jackie Chan does this kind of stuff all the time… And don’t make me mention Chuck Norris!
