There’s a snake in the garage. Me likey, The Wife not so much (insert innuendoes at any time). She’s a girly girl on the topic of snakes, spiders, rodents, and the such. He’s a 14 inch garter snake who just shed, using one of my shovels as a back scratch. He’s got a nice hole dug out in the front corner that used to be a nice place for mice. No more mice!
JSA don’t do snakes. JSA is just like Indiana Jones. JSA sends the wifie after snakes. Wifie either worships or eats them. JSA isn’t sure which and doesn’t want to know.
Just leave it. It’s harmless and there’s little to be gained by moving it. It just views your garage as a suitable part of it’s habitat, (relatively warm, secure, possibly a source of food). If you move it, those same attractions will remain for another snake.
You live in the middle of a forest. Other animals do to. It’s one of the privileges of where you live.

Tell the Wife or stay mute?
Of course leave it. Poor little guy. Garter snakes are harmless and friendly, if you manage to catch it.
Garter snakes mostly eat bugs and worms.
I’ve had countless numbers of them as pets.
We are a snake friendly household. Both my daughters are the neighborhood snake-rescue team. Every one know to call them for snake removal if desired. No killing snakes allowed.

Perhaps it’s an opportunity to educate your wife.
Move one and another will quickly replace it. Just leave it and it will eventually move on on its own.
We have a pair of Black snakes that live in our basement. I removed them once or twice when my wife found them in the floor of the laundry room. She would not do laundry for 3 months. Everything was fine fine till a couple of days ago. I hear a yell from the front porch and my wife running thru the house. Looked on the porch and a 5 foot or so black snake was climbing the the window sill. I shooed him off. Funny thing is, I have four border collie that raise hell anytime any other animal comes in the yard. They don’t bother or even bark at the black snakes. It’s like they know they live there.
