WTF- ordered a new derailleur and bike shop gave me a used one, plus its the wrong one

I’m steaming pissed right now. I ordered a NEW ultegra 10-sp FD (# 6600), and stopped in to pick it up today. It was cold, and I was in a hurry- walking to the train station in 5 degree F temps. No box, but whatever- it had the red sticker that comes on a new derailleur, and I was in a hurry. I get home, eat, and get ready to install. It has light dirt on the pivots, some light wear from a chain on the plates, and is stamped 6500 (9-sp) on the back. The guy tried to sell me one off a 9-sp bike last week, but I said I wanted new 10-sp, even specifically said “6600”. So, he willfully sold me a used part as new. What a piece of shit fraud!! Its going to take all my willpower to not blow up as soon as I go in there tomorrow.

PM me and I’ll be glad to say where NOT to go in Chicago. I should tip over a new bike in this asshole’s shop.

Which shop is it?

ReCycle- 14th and Michigan.

In a way, its good that I live 70 miles away in DeKalb. If it was close, I’d go over there and be a raging dick right now. As it is, I’m going to pre-load the numbers for my bank and the cops’ non-emergency # into my phone, and allow an extra hour to make a big-ass scene if he’s not cordial and apologetic. Does this guy think the public is stupid? If I know enough to order a part by the part # and to rebuild my own bikes, then he could probably deduce that I’d figure out he ripped me. I hate liars and cheats.

ReCycle…how ironic.

from the big city
I lived in Virgil

LOL! Nice -

Sorry Lunchbox! I’d be pretty pissed as well.

yeah, that was pretty good… LOL

In 20 minutes, dinner will be well enough digested to go in the basement and get angry on the trainer. Might as well use some rage constructively!

Wow. I live 4 blocks from there and drive to the other side of the city to get bike parts, if that tells you anything…

It does. I’m so looking forward to getting my money back today. I plan on being nice until I have it back on the card, then lecturing him on why its bad business to be a thieving douche.

Not worth wasting the energy on bitching at them. Just get you money back and don’t shop there again.
See below for a place than stocks new parts.

Listen to this guy. Lecturing people isn’t worth your time, just head to a good shop.

Get a Grip takes care of me, Rockhopper1 here, RC10C (Chip)…they are good guys. Actually, I’m heading over there today, want me to check if they have one in stock?

please do. Ultegra 6600 FD (braze on, double). Thanks. Since you’re fairly close to where I work, want to run sometime?

That sucks!

I agree just get your money back and leave. If the guy gave a shit he would not of pulled a stunt like that in the first place.

Sure, where do you work? What pace do you run?

I’ve been on the dreadmill lately, but the weatherman says some warmer temps are coming.

S. Calumet Ave, National Guard Armory- its about 2 blocks from Michigan and 18th. Pace? Depends… 8:40 for 6 miles yesterday, but my legs were fried from 2 hrs on the trainer and the lakefront path was covered in salty slush. I did 10 miles in 74:58 last week- feeling fresh, and it was about 30 degrees. You?

I know right where that is…and that pace works for me.

PM me and maybe we can set something up to run regularly. I need a push lately.

will do- its starting to become a grind again- there’s only 2 directions to go on that path. I’m getting tempted to try and run to Michigan on the ice!

Make sure there are a lot of customers in the store when you do it.

So how did this end?

Letthem know your thoughts.
