Wtf?! (Olympic Spoiler)

I just saw team USA parade around the Opening Ceremonies in berets. Given all the anti-French sentiment these days, is anyone else as surprised as I am that the “good ol boys” are wearing French hats? I’d have thought they’d get trucker hats…

And if I hear anyone calling them “Freedom _________” I’ll kick you in the nuts!

They should of worn cowboy hats! That would have been classic, riding horses and lasseoing other olympians. Why must we conform, its not the american way. Probably the USOC’s way to be PC and not so brash at these Olympics. I hope we make up for it in the medal count. I am not an ugly american but the rest of the worlds attitude towards us really pisses me off at the moment. Ok, im done. GO USA! I’ll be watching all the games and may the best and non cheating athletes win.

They were actually Canadian Berets made by Roots Canada for Team USA.

Cowboy hats - of course! That would rule.

I am aware of the Roots line, as they in fact make the “official gear” for several countries. However the beret is a French hat (that’s probably made in China anyway).

I also think the Canadians should have worn toques. Fuzzy ball on top and everything.

Yeah, cause all americans are cowboys. HA HA. I think they cowboy hats in Lake Placid, the year of the Miracle on Ice, I was only ten and I still remember that, it was great! Maybe well have a story like that this year with iraqi soccer team?

the attitude of the rest of the world pisses you off at the moment??

geeee…that’s the best I’ve heard for a while…
Whats your point?

What are the Canadians wearing? Roots did have a pretty cool summer olympic toque when I was there earlier this summer. Why in the world is Canadian Roots providing the uniforms for the USA team? And why in the world is the team Canada cycling jersey so incredibly ugly? Where did the blue come from? WHERE?

Let’s see, that would be the “Green Cowboy Hats”?

Sheezh…who cares? The Olympics as all together too much jingoism as it is. And it’s worse than the drug problem by an order of magnitude.

The French are not that way of course…

The US 2002 winter uniforms also came from ROOTs. They had beret then also and they where a big hit in the US.

Roots provides Olympic gear for several countries. They scored a HUGE hit which pretty much saved the company when they landed the contract to provide the Canadian team gear for the 1988 Nagano games, and the subsequent popularity of the Canadian team’s berets and clothing resulted in other countries asking Roots to do their gear as well. This year Roots is the “Official Outfitter” for Canada, the USA, Great Britain, and Barbados.

As far as the blue on the Canadian cycling gear goes, I have no idea.

The Canadian cycling team chose a color combination that would stand out more in the peloton, red and white is everywhere so they went with something a little different, I think they look awesome.

Only three words to decribe Root’s Canadian homeboy look uniforms - ugly, ugly and ugly.

I agree with you on the PC effort. Can anyone tell me if any other team was required to attend a briefing on how to “properly” express themselves should they win a medal?

Do you think it was an accident that the US team did not have their national flag as the majority of other teams carried in the parade?

Isn’t this one time when unabashed nationalism is warranted?

USA . . . USA . . .USA . . .

Yes, Oz.

If the idea of terrorism is to make us change the way we live, doesn’t that mean that we have lost?

This was a discussion around my family when some decided to go to the athens.

There’s nothing you can do about terrorism changing the way we live. The best you can do is make smart decisions and decide not to live in fear. Still, it doesn’t make sense to take unnecessary risks.
