Yes, most people that say “shut the F up” to a bunch of people they don’t know would be considered having an attitude. I’ve already gone over my opinion on the donation so i’m not going to rehash that. I don’t think people are calling people out for WTC donating, but given how much they make on the race every year and asking the race participants to donate so they can still put on the race and make money from it seems a little silly. You’re embarrassed because I went to the same school and have a different opinion than you on a corporations donation in one particular case? I’m sorry you feel that way, but I think you’re taking it a little overboard.

Actually dude you seem to be the one with the attitude. And $5000? It cost me $1000 to pave my 30 foot driveway. $5000 will be a great patch of new road. WTC would be better off starting a real fundraiser rather than a drop int eh hat monetary donation.

No, now that I’ve read several of your posts, it is Drake that should be embarrassed that one of its graduates can’t express himself more civilly in a public forum.
Whenever, a question of donating money comes up I always think of an interview I watched with Bill Gates and one of the big network lead anchors. The guy asked Bill about his charitable donations seeing as Gates was worth some odd billion dollar figure. Bill then turned it around and ask the anchor about his charitable donations seeing as he made 400K a year, which was ten times the average American salary at the time. I thought it was hilarious. Donations of any kind should be private. If WTC doesn’t want to look silly then they should keep the amount to themselves and just encourage others to donate as well.

Guys…seriously, let’s move on. We can debate to death what WTC should do. If they donate $100K people would say that they must be ripping everyone off constantly if they can just drop $100K of un budgeted dollars and the key here is unbudgeted expenses. Anyone who works in a corporation knows how hard it is to magically create unbudgeted funds.
In the end it really does not matter what WTC donated. What matters is that there are people in Lake Placid that need our support. Having a race there is secondary. The Keene firehall literally floated away. Guess what…that means if anyone near Keene has a fire at their home, there is no fire station to bail them out and no roads for the fire trucks to travel on to get to their homes.
Are you some of guys getting the picture yet? WTC is not asking us to donate to them…they have a large database of people who have a strong interest in Lake Placid, and them reaching out to that database is much more effective than myself, Nedbraden or anyone trying to contact their buddies and their facebook crew etc.
WTC contact base consists of thousands of people who did a “lifetime achievement” (On ST you can belittle it of you want, but for many their Ironman finish was exactly that). When Lake Placid gave you that, you’re more than likely to feel compelled to give back to the community that gave to you. This is WTC’s biggest role here…the money is largely secondary…mobilizing all of us who have type of an emotional investment in the community of Lake Placid is impactful.

The people I see wanting a fight are people like yo, draketriathlon and cdw who go on the attack then either lie or deny they said things that they posted.
It’s pretty pathetic if you think about it…not that you guys do much thinking when you get dug in.

Who knows maybe they could or could not donate more to make sure their event goes on. Kudos to them for doing anything. They take a chanceof opening up floodgates of money and charity requests now. Let’s hope the elected officials of LP do their part to apply for grants or federal disaster money to rebuild their roads. When push comes to shove it is up to the elected officials And their appointed cronies to do their part also. Their town and future depend on them. Our fun also does. But my fun can be put on hold and I would rather donate to individuals or orgs. like the red cross that I know the money will go towards individuals that need it.

Regardless of what WTC does here, I think it’s complete BS that individual citizens are being asked to donate money to fix state roads. The state and federal governments should be fixing these roads as part of the disaster relief efforts. What do we pay taxes for? We should be donating money and food to help the families whose homes were destroyed by this disaster, not paying to fix the roads. There are tons of families in need of volunteer time and money in VT. If you plan to donate money, these people are in desperate need of it.
