Did I miss an announcement?
Are WTC pulling out / have pulled out of Asia?

Last I heard there were 3 Ironman’s in Australia and 1 in NZ
Both locations are in Asia-Pacific
They are desperate to get back into Japan.
I thought they are still in Phuket, Taiwan,Japan and Sri Lanka at the 70.3 distance.
I had 3 people who claimed to be ‘in the know’ this past weekend at ITU WCS tell me they are pulling out of Asia? And I mean Asia - not Oceania.
Just rumor?
Singapore 70.3 was renewed for 3 more years.
Japan 70.3 is stillunder contract.
In an interview on IMTALK Andrew (CEO) said they are really working on taking over asia. It’s a massive growth area.
If they will bet you, I’d put some cash down on it.
There are other places in the world other than America.
Seemed quite a strange suggestion but as I say 3 people stated it this past weekend?
Maybe subversive tactics by ITU
And I do realise there is a world outside of the USA.
Good grief I hope not. I’ve a pact with some pals to finish an IM on each continent, and last I checked Oceania isn’t one.
but Australia is?
Good luck with Antarctica
.
4 in Oz. Busso, Melbourne, Port Macquarie and Cairns.
Good luck with Antarctica
Yes, well, we’re working on that one. As Hawaii isn’t technically part of any continent, that may substitute as a wild card…
but Australia is?
Um…
I thought next years Port Mac was the last?
Unless we are not informed…70.3 Philippines is still up…http://www.ironman703phil.com/
.
Singapore (usually March) seems to be delayed until late 2013. Rumour has it, they lost their main sponsor - Aviva.
Philippines is on again for sure - August 4th 2013. Dates have been sent out already. They also have a 5i50 race in June in Subic.
Phuket 70.3 is touch and go - last year of 3 this December, and I’m not hopefull of renewal.
The others I’m not so clued up on.

Main sponsor for Singapore HIM is definitely out. Reported in the news today. Plus no license awarded for 2013 from WTC.
Re: Singapore - quote from their facebook page:
Ironman 70.3 Singapore That’s not what we said - but there won’t be a race in the first half of the year given the time to set it up to a high standard. We are working towards early fourth quarter and as we have news we will release it…
Let’s see what happens.
Side note, new race in Vietnam from the same guys who run Phuket LPT: http://www.lagunalangcotriathlon.com/
There’s also the Metaman in Bintan, Indonesia (Ironman.distance). Bintan is an island off Singapore, about 45mins away by ferry.
There are no full distance races in Asia and haven’t been for quite awhile. Calling the Australia races part of Asia would be the equivalent of telling folks in the Midwest to just go do Ironman Germany or Ironman France. There’s been talk of a new IM China but so far it’s just that. There are, as has been pointed out, a few 70.3’s.

Actually in Australia we always refer to our region as Australia-Asia.
When talking soccer/football we refer to it as Oceania.
