So I find myself in the US visiting a friend a fair bit, usually once a month. I’d like to train on those weekends, as the area has some excellent terrain. However, the prospect of lugging a bike makes it difficult, particularly given that my friend’s car can’t fit a bike box in it.
What I’m looking for is an older (2003? 2002?) road bike. I’m about a 56cm/57cm toptube. 9spd is fine (my bikes at home are), and ideally Ultegra. I’d even contemplate purchasing one without wheels, as I have an extra wheelset at home.
Anyone want to discuss this? Is it reasonable? The ideal solution would be an original Soloist (Aka Team Soloist), as I may do some tri’s in the area.
Many thanks.
Matt
I have a 56Cm Trek Alu frame that I might be able to part with. It is 9sp Ultergra and 3 years old with less than 500 miles on it. Great shape save some minor paint dings.

I have a black 56 Caad 5 Cannondale (03 built up in 04). ALL ULTEGRA except for the brakes on the wheels (R-600 shimano) can’t tell the difference against my dura ace brakes. Around 600 miles, have to look at my odometer. Still have the profile clip ons I used to have on it. E-mail me if interested hhnegd@verizon.net
A quick thank-you to those who have offered. I was actually approached yesterday by someone I know who is selling off their road bike, so I think that’s the route I’m going to take.
Cheers.
Matt
