Looking for a new or barely used Giro aero helmet. Would be willing to pay, or trade any of the things in my bike closet to lower the price:
-Felt carbon fork
-full Profile Design aero cockpit
-dura ace 11-23 cassette
-and lots of other stuff (just ask)
Thanks,
Brian
Not to rain on yout hopes and dreams, but unless you are a sponsored athlete or bought one oversees to obtain one, the Giro aero helmet isn’t even out in the US yet.
Bob
Bob,
I’ve seen them for sale online, but I wasn’t aware that they just went up. In that case, I guess you’re right - slim chance. Thanks for letting me know.

Oh there are people selling them, but it’s a waiting list sale, not an actual sale. And, that’s fine, but people assume they are for sale and ship, but they’re not.
Like I said, some sponsored athletes have them and whatnot, so they are coming.
Bob
Actually, they failed safety tests AGAIN and last I heard they are now scheduled for 2008 in the US. You can buy one overseas but they aren’t certified to use in USAT events here in the states.
Seriously? A guy at an LBS near me said they passed…

And was his next sentence: “Want to preorder one?”
Nah, I’ve got one on preorder already, but am making a trip to Europe this summer, so I might need to buy one. With the various euro helmets I saw at Columbia and the “inspectors” signing off on them, I’m not terribly worried.
Bob
I have one preordered and got an email last week that saying that it failed the CPSC test again and that they won’t be available in the states until they pass. The estimated date was no sooner than August 2007. But I’m not holding my breath.
Really, GIRO is losing money here. They could really capitalize on the market if they got them out there. I don’t understand it and it just doesn’t make logical sense. This is GIRO after all, not some fly-by-night, small-time helmet manufacturer. Geez!
Alan
It really depends on the race. Columbia was not quite as picky as some other races. At St. A’s in April some of their pros had their helmets deemed unqualified before the race. They had to scramble to find “normal” vented helmets. Seeing as there is not going to be a huge advantage (pun intended) to the Giro over a Rocket or other certified helmet, I would just stick with what is certified. Also, there is certainly a reason the helmet is not passing. Remember that the primary purpose of a helmet should be to protect you in the event you crash or are struck by something. Are a couple of 1/10s of a second really worth it for a helmet which doesn’t even meet the minimum safety standards in the USA?
Oh I completely agree and will probably pick up a LG Rocket and have Tai pimp it out with some graphics.
My comment about Columbia was aimed at the idiots from Princeton Sports who wer inspecting bikes and helmets. WHen I took my bike to get “inspected” I found out that the ski shop manager (I kid you not) was doing inspections. He picked up the front of the my P2C by the Vuka aero extensions, slammed the wheel to the ground and deemed the handlebar loose and the headset in need of work. Both of which they could fix, for a price, of course…He was dead serious, but I was too stunned and ready to kick the living shit out of him to do anything more than laugh.
