Wrench help!

trying to change crankset on wife’s bike, Shiumano 9 speed coming off. right crank & rings came off fine, left side won’t budge. have beat it with rubber handle, tried to pry, even used a crank extractor (which shouldn’t be necessary with this crankset), left arm is still there. any thoughts or tips ? thanks.

WD 40? Just to loosen things up a bit.

this may sound very silly, but did you remove that dust cap before loosening the crank bolt? DO NOT do that if that’s what you did. re-tighten the crank bolt, and re-screw the dust cap all the way in. Then loosen the crank bolt with the allen key as per usual with the dust cap still in there. Don’t worry about feeling increasing resistance as you loosen the crank bolt. This is normal. Keep loosening the crnak bolt all the way and the dust cap will push the crank arm off the BB.

Footwerx, you are THE MAN !! seemed counter-intuitive to not take dust cap off first, but that’s exactly what it took. Came right off. Not only that, you also seem to know the bad news about my Zipps correctly (another post). Anyway, owe you big time, thanks, and thanks, again !!

one more things, please. when i’m putting the new cranks on, i do put the dust caps on last, correct ? (you can see how this day has really humbled me)…thanks.

yes you put the caps on last.
