Blue tape shows where the helmet cracked all the way through. This was a glancing blow to the head in a field that surely would have left me unconscious, paralyzed or dead without the helmet. For those of you riding on the road with your hair flying in the wind, I hope this changes your mind.

glad you’re OK- exact same thing happened to me 2 years ago. I’ve destroyed 3 helmets over the years mountain biking, but have never laid down a road bike.

Thanks guys. I am sore, but I’ll get over it. Probably a week off from the aero position so my neck will return to normal. I got my first ten speed when I was twelve, so I’ve been on the roads for almost thirty years and fortunately never wrecked like I have off road.
The local Rudy project rep brightened my day by hooking me up with a new RP Kontact helmet that I’ll get this week. I hope it stays shiny side up for a long time!

I miss the USCF days when we were not forced to wear them…then again I am in Illinois where there is no law about helmets on Motorcycles either.
