These are the new Easton Velomax Tempest II’s Very nice. $679, absolutely awesome hubs, bladed aero spokes, nice rims and the Easton logos look cool.
I’ll see if I can garb a quick photo so you can check these out. Good, strong, cheap race wheels with awesome hubs. You guys will like these I think.

I saw them at interbike and thought they were very cool.
It’s kind of a shame, the pictures don;t do justice to them. It is the hub quality that sells these. As nice as Mvic Ksyriums are, these blow them away in my opinion. They have a one peice hub shell, Ksyriums are a two piece shell. Sometimes it creaks. Annoying.
I’m not the most educated customer, but for the money wouldn’t one be able to some “racier” race wheels?
They don’t look particularly aerodynamic to me…
(plus, clincher race wheels? what would bunnyman say?)
These are about as racy as a wheel can get short of a 60mm deep rim front and disc rear. This is one obstacle Easton faces with these. This is only a product for the expereinced, educated consumer.
I sell these as $600 race wheels: They are light, durable, super aero with bladed spokes and very well made. They can also be serviced and repaired unlike carbon wheels.
Don’t get me wrong- these don;t compete with Zipps, Heds and Renn. They are a viable alternative to more expensive race wheels and they are FAAASSSST.
These wheels are better than the “race wheels” I used to do Kona in 1986. Cheap and good.
Will they put up with daily training like the ksyirums sl’s? Im looking to upgrades my cosmos and id like to keep my options open. I cant afford race wheels and need something good for everything

Your point about the hubs is taken. But isn’t the most important factor for a TT/tri race wheel the depth of the rim? These don’t look too deep, probably less than a 303, right?
For the money, would’t a Renn disc and whatever front wheel you could scrounge up for $200-250 be a faster combo?
i like em a little better than Eurus. They’re pretty comparable I’d say.
In the past Velomax has sold a carbon version of the Tempest - basically the Hub on the wheel Tom has laced to a ZIPP 404 rim, for basically the same price as a set of 404s.

I don’t think these wheels are race wheels in the sense that we consider 404s race wheels. Rather, they’re a good option for those that can afford only one set of wheels for training and racing, and these offer good durability and performance (these offer both), or for applications other than solely triathlon/time trials, such as road races, crits, et cetera. For the money, you’re right, you could put together a faster combo, but you’d be limited to tri/tt races.
That makes sense.
Am I the only one on this forum who thinks the new Reynolds Altas are excellent wheels? I race on 404’s and the Altas serve me wheel for fast group rides on my road bike and occasional dualthlons. They are so fast, light and strong I’m tempted to race on them. They are also in the same price range as the Easton wheels.
