Wow Rutgers! Down 25-7, wins 28-25

Amazing game. The crowd spills onto the field … good for the coach and players.

MIssed FG. Louisville offsides. Made FG.

Bring on the 8-team, conference champions, national playoff.

Does the Big East have a Conference Championship?

The Big East does not have a championship game. Depending on the outcome of the Rutgers-West Virginia game, whoever ends up with the higher ranking will end up with a BCS bowl game.

I didn’t realize that RU and WV played this year. Fantastic!

Of course, we can all see it coming … WV beats RU, and now no one knows who is the best team in the Big East … and with no undefeated teams in the conference, we’ll be arguing about what “1-Loss” team gets to play The undefeated Big 10 team in the national championship game.

If Ohio State wins, and has to beat Michigan or Texas AGAIN … would suck … and well, if USC runs the table against Ore, Cal, and ND, they’ll be right there. It’s like we see it coming, but can’t stop it.

Again, I plead for an 8-team playoff featuring conference champions (and all conferences have a championship game).

We can hear the arguements that the season would be too long and all the concern about the athletes, etc. Truth is, college football features the season that is most “pro-like” in its schedule. College basketball schedule is 1/3 of the NBA. College baseball is 1/3 of MLB. Yet college football schedule is 2/3 of the NFL.

If the sport is “that” dangerous, feature fewer regular season games, and focus on what is the priority … conference champions, and a head-to-head way of setting the national championship. That’s assuming that the priority is a head-to-head process of settling the championship, and not making more money with more games. Heh, I just made myself laugh.

Oh-oh … there I go again. =)

I never responded to your post regarding this. Mainly b/c I’m lazy, and I hate to type. I dunno though, you want to cut the regular season even shorter? Good Lord. We barely have any out of conference games as it is. I’m sorry, but it would be a real yawner to me if the season was cut even shorter(plus, I LOVE sitting around and watching never-ending bowl games). I’m quite happy with the current system. I think a (hypothetical) OSU game vs Texas now would have a bit of a different look to it than it did earlier in the season. Colt’s starting to find his stride a bit. I guess its just a matter of opinion. Plus, I’m not exactly an objective third party since I go to UT, and the BCS rankings have been good to us lately.

I don’t really even think that the regular season would need to be cut that much, maybe one game less.

The 8-team playoff would add 3 games for 2 teams (national title participants), 2 games for 2 teams (the losers in the final 4), and 1 more game for 4 teams (the first round losers). This would also only affect the 8 teams in the playoof … everyone else would continue their same schedule of end-of-season bowl games.

There would still be endless bowl games, and bowl games could be a part of the 8-team playoff (like they are with the current BCS).

It would also eliminate the almost month-long period of inactivity the top teams endure anyway.

As for teams like Texas, who (I agree) are playing better late than early … well, it puts the highest quality teams, playing the best ball, in a head-to-head format for all the money. “December Madness” … so to speak. =)

I don’t like the idea of a playoff system - I would like to see some flexibility though.
i feel like, if you clearly have earned the right to play in the title game, you shouldn’t have to play more games to get there - so, for instance, I don’t think that the winner of this year’s ohio state-michigan game should have to play in any playoff games. if there is another team that is similarly worthy, then there should just be a title game between those two teams. but if there aren’t eligible teams, i’d be happy with a 4-team playoff. with, an occasional 3-team playoff (so, for instance, top team vs. winner of 2v3 - i think that’s what’d work best this year).
i don’t think it’s gonna happen, and it obviously won’t happen this year, but it’s what i’d like to see.

I think this game was very important because it vindicates the skepticism about the Big East scheduling. Now we have an idea of what happens when a team like Louisville plays more than one non-cupcake team in a short amount of time. Sure, Louisville put up 460+ yards against WVU “defense,” but when they finally played an actual defense they put up only 260 yards.

I like the idea of a BCS but the program must be tweaked to put greater emphasis on SOS and margin of victory. College football fans must have more tech-saavy people. I don’t know they don’t make a bunch of computer programs and run them against past years’ performance … kinda like mutual funds do. While past performance does guarantee future results, I think that would help the process of choosing a better BCS computer program than the bad ones we have now. Plus, it will provide a truer bogey against the “we need a playoff” argument. In the end, the “we need a playoff” argument might be the strongest, but I’d like to see a better defense being put up by the BCS.

Louisville trashed Kansas State … Kansas State beats Texas.

I like the idea of a BCS but the program must be tweaked to put greater emphasis on SOS and margin of victory.

I would like to see the BCS “weight” the team rankings (SOS) so that the ranked teams in the middle and end of the season count for more than the ratings at the beginning (assuming this doesn’t already take place). Pre-Season through week 2 rankings should not be given all that much weight. Rankings after teams have went through some of the conference schedule should matter more.

Not sure if more was cleared up today, or made more murky.

#1 (Ohio St) and #2 Mich are still undefeated and will reamin 1-2.

#3 Louisville was beaten by Rutgers. #4 Texas was beaten by K-State, #5 Auburn was beaten badly by Georgia, #6 Florida barely won v. SoCarolina (blocked 2 FG’s and an XP), #7 USC is beating Oregon easily, #8 Cal got dumped by 'Zona St, #9 ND beat Air Force, #10 WV beat Cincy, #11 Arkansas thumped Tenn (but is hassled by an opening week destruction at USC), #14 Boise State remained unbeaten by squeeking past SJST, #15 Rutgers beat #3 Louisville. #16 Wisconsin beat Iowa.

4 Unbeaten teams (OSU, Mich, Rutgers, Boise St), and 6 teams with 1 loss (LU, Flo, USC, WV, Ark, Wisc)

Ohio St and Mich play next week, the winner being “locked” in the NC game. Louisville plays 3 subpar teams and should remain with 1-loss. Florida should win their last 2 games, and likely play Ark in the SEC title game. USC plays Cal and ND, so either USC or ND will be eliminated. WV plays 2 subpar teams then Rutgers, (What to do if the Big East features 3 1-loss teams?). Arkansas plays LSU and then the SEC title game.

So, basically, we’ll have an undefeated Big 10 team (NC game), 2-3 Big East teams with 1-loss and (possibly) one undefeated team. Likely 1 SEC team with 1-loss. The winner of USC-ND will have one loss. Boise State plays 2 games it should win to go 12-0. Wisconsin should finish 11-1.

So we’re left with these possible teams:

Ohio State (12-0 or 11-1), Michigan (12-0 or 11-1), Louisville (11-1, lost to Rutgers)), Florida (12-1 or 11-2), Arkansas (12-1 or 11-2) (Flo-Ark will eliminate the other one), USC (11-1 or 10-2), WV (11-1 or 10-2, lost to Louisville)), Rutgers (12-0 or 11-1), Wisconsin 11-1, lost to Michigan), Boise St 12-0, didn’t play a ranked team.

OhSt, Mich, Louisville, Flo/Ark, USC/ND), Louisville, WV/Rutgers, Boise St, Wisc. USC/ND.

Consensus seems to be … Wisconsin’s out with the loss to Mich. The Big East teams are out, even if Rutgers goes undefeated … as is Boise State. The loser of the ND/USC game is out. Loser of the Ark/Flo (SEC champ) game is out.

So, we’re realistically left with OhSt/Mich, ND/USC, Flo/Ark. Strangely it seems to be that if OhSt/Mich play it close, they’ll play again for all the marbles … forcing one team to beat the other twice, or rewarding one with the NC even though they plit.

Not sure if I am continuing the thread, or just talking to myself. =)
