While we’re at it:
That looks pretty comfy.

Both of those cycists look really cool … and as I’ve learned here, that’s all that really matters. Good for them. They rock.
My big concern for race day is finding some black & purple racing clothes to match my bike. Without that I have no chance.
Both of those cycists look really cool … and as I’ve learned here, that’s all that really matters.
Actually, both of those cyclists have amazing stories. The stretched one is Graeme Obree and the scrunched one is The Great Moser…

that TT was 22 km, vice 15 miles:
**COURSE DESCRIPTION: **The race consists of a 22 km out and back course on a divided, multi lane roadway, having a good shoulder and light traffic. The terrain is flat and fast with some very minor rolling hills (less than 2 meters of climbing per hill) and a good road surface. There will be course marshals and DPS officers at the Start, Finish, and Turnaround.

correct me if my math is wrong, but isn’t 22km, 13.2 miles?
Triple Threat, Moser won countless classics, the giro, and set the World hour record in ~1983 at Mexico City riding 51.150 km on a “conventional bike” with dual disks and just cowhorn drops (pre aero bars). Obree, the guy on the Hotta in superman position I believe broke Mosers record around a decade later, using the “obree position” that Moser is shown in. This position was outlawed by the UCI so Obree invented this superman position. I think the pic of Moser is from when he tried to break his own 51.150 km clocking around 10 years later, well after he retired into his 40’s. I think he ended up above 50 kph, but did not break his previous mark. Anyway, all these positions are now “illegal”
Very Boardmanesque.
Just goes to show that fit is an individula thing. What is ideal in a wind tunnel does not always translate that way…
Also note the World Champion stripes on Obree’s jersey. He earned those.
The Superman position Obree was shown in was widely copied, especially on the track. In 1996, Boardman set the current asterixed hour record, the world pursuit record, the mens and womens WC and Olympic pursuit golds were won using a similar position.
Speaking of the superman position, check out how slack the seat tube angle is on Obree’s Hotta. Obvoiusly the man was not only a great innovator but able to generate huge power in a variety of seat tube angles.
Thanks for the info (not joking). I knew the name Moser, and I know next to nothing about pro cycling. I was kidding about my “looking cool” comment. That was sarcasm from another thread. All that really matters is winning, losing, and progress to me.
I know from other sports that unique mechanics can have success. You wouldn’t teach your kid how to bat like Gary Sheffield, but it works for him. Interesting how folks find success using unorthodox methods.
13.62 actually.
1mile = 1.615km
1.609!! And more, 1.6093, if memory serves me right from the good old times in HS Physics.
1 mile = 5280 feet = 1609.344 meters…
hope that makes my mathematics & physics professors proud…
From someone who did the race: The course was a headwind on the way out and it definately rolled “up”, the way back was fun though…2nd and 3rd in the mens pro1-2 rode fixed gears, 55x15’s or something like that… Keith 26.01 31st pro-1-2
