Wove saddles

Yes,

So you could opt to have one above saddle bottle that is elevated some, and then still run a bottle cage under the saddle. And for training, but not for racing, you could run two bottles on top of the saddle, and one underneath the saddle.

Yep. I currently have one cage underneath the saddle which I’m only using for tool storage (using one of these bottles). The new bracket would give me the option of having one or two bottles for hydration on top. (If I’m interpreting the rule correctly, the storage bottle would fall under the exception for ā€œrear mounted storage boxes that are able to contain tubes, CO2, tire levers, and other tools necessary for basic maintenance.ā€)

It is probably imported alloy from Canada:-) And you know what that means with all these Trump tariffs. The cost of an alloy part like that in EU is about 50 euro

You laugh. When he said double aluminum, they get most of it from Canada with 50% tariffs I believe

It’s all Canada’s fault. Apparently we are ā€˜nasty’

Maybe i’m dumb, but anyone ever try mounting BTS bottles facing forward? Sometimes i feel like i’m about to pull my shoulder out of joint trying to reach for a bottle.

Also Nasty is a generic insult used by the orange dude all the time, just wish he would be a bit more original sometimes

Nothing dumb about that, we tested this in a v-shape set up during our aerocamp led by @marcag in February this year and was neutral to a bit faster if I remember correct. But nothing of the BS published by any of the known companies.

I’m currently testing, final stage, of a very affordable BTS system which attaches and partly replace the ritchey clamp saddle system. So it will fit p-series, cube aerium, etc, etc. Up to this point it is rock solid and we are looking a retail price of 99 euro incl.the elastic bottle savers

that’s great to hear, currently using 1L bottles makes me have to reach waaaaaaaaay back to get a bottle or put a bottle back in.

Also wonder if the ejection risk is lessened with a forward facing bottle compared to traditional rear facing. something to try out in the spring i guess

That could explain why I find it so expensive. That’s aluminium, not Titanium

Anyway, I came to complain, now I want one, well played Nick.

We tested with several different strength of cages, and the weaker ones made the bottles eject but they stopped against the point where they touched your butt so i never lost them.
But a stronger cage was helpful

@TRIPRO @walie …I was wondering the same thing a few months ago…but didn’t speak up. Noticed this pic (below) from an article, and have since seen a couple other athletes running the bottles forward facing. I’ve been going back and forth with Wove’s original double bottle BTA - the bottle under the saddle is challenging for me to get to…the top bottle is a non-issue, and @spocket 's double bottle BTA which is much easier for me to grab bottles…even while in aero. I experimented briefly with forward facing, but had to use much smaller bottles, because anything over 750ml was too long

Yes, with that system the bottles are too close but we tested them against our own bts, almost ready actually, which i designed to used on bikes that use the ritchey saddle clamp system. And it allows the botttles to be placed at a slight outward angle and also if needed a slight upward angle to make access easier.
I have pics of this system but since it is a wove thread it is not so nice to hijack it

Good on you for being nice Jeroen
If there’s no significant penalty, I’ll be interested to test out @Nick_wovebike 's new set up, make the two top bottles easier to grab and depending on race distance either running 3 bottles or 2 on top and a mezzo pod below with spare tubes/flat kit/etc.

Something I want to try once I get this bracket is if side-loading cages make it easier to reach back to get the bottles out (with retention loops so they don’t fly out the first time I hit a bump). Part of the reason I switched to two bottles BTA is that I always detested having to pull BTS bottles out of Gorilla cages.

If you mean three bottles BTS, that’s not allowed by Ironman and WT rules, FYI.

Crap. Thanks for clarifying. I guess I was thinking about the imaginary box that everything had to fit inside when the weird rules started coming to play. I should probably skim over the rule book during the off-season…because I honestly don’t know what is what anymore…just wanna carry all my nutrition/hydration, and be able to reach it!

Side load cages make it indeed a little bit easier, or the chimp cage from x-lab or dusk-till-dawn side brand of x-lab

For people having issues pulling out bottles from the rear of BTS, especially with Gorilla cages.. I am wondering: are you mostly trying to pull them out along their axis (and opposite when inserting them back)?

I used to have issues until I switched to rotating the bottle away from the cage as I pull the bottle out. Same thing when putting back the bottle: inserting it at an angle and rotating it as you put it back seems a lot easier.

Ref: short vide below - if this is not how you do it now, it’s worth trying - I feel it goes in and out a lot easier like that.

Yep, pretty much. Before I got the V8 saddle, I used an Xlab wing, which put the cage at an angle and facing backwards. In that position, getting the bottle away from the cage like in your video would be hard (it’d mean pushing it even further back, away from me). For a full, I used two cages on the same Xlab wing, which puts the cages facing to each side, and that makes it a more natural motion to pull the bottles away instead of along the axis.

Here’s the interpretation document, for your ease of reference.
A number of the pro shovel front ends seem to position the BTA rear boittle too far back to be legal, by my estimate. Basically, the front of the cage needs to be forward of the elbow position. If it isn’t a one litre bottle (which is >250mm long) will stick out of the legal box.

nah just use a small top tube bento in place of the 3rd bottle for flat kit

I’m intrigued now to try forward facing bottles mounted as far back as possible and angled slightly up instead of flat
