I told a friend I’d bought a Wove saddle and he asked “what’s so special about those saddles?” I found myself briefly trying to explain the shape and padding before realising that what’s actually special about the saddles is Nick.

He’s been helping me get my position sorted out post purchase. Back and forth with multiple videos. He could have stopped already. Must be a busy guy. But he’s still there helping me to finesse things.

Hey Nick, have you had any issues with the bolts coming loose with updated double bottle bracket? I’ve used the double bottle bracket (the original model, then a warranty replacement to the stronger model last fall) with no issue before, but at IM Jacksonville the screw closer to the rear worked its way loose early in the race, then the front screw eventually snapped over an expansion joint coming down a bridge at mile 45. I had changed bottle cage prior to the event but torqued my bolts in, didn’t use loctite which maybe I should’ve but it hadn’t been necessary in the past.

There was some vibrational roads and I had 2 of the elite 950mL bottles loaded up with 180g carbs, so a lot of weight back there/ But bottom cage was flapping around with 1 screw attached as early as mile 35 when I noticed it and went to start drinking from the bottom bottle, which was quite early in. I suppose it’s what I get for being very critical of the Ez gains systems for being so flimsy/flexible and being very prone to bottle ejections!

The bolts come with blue Loctite already on them, and blue Loctite is definitely needed for all of the vibrations a BTS system sees, in addition to checking the bolts occasionally, especially the first several times.

Which double BTS did you use that came loose? Just curious…I will say that definitely need to use Locktite. Like Nick said, check the screws, and with 950 mL bottles and hitting huge bumps at high speed (say on downhills for example hitting expansion joints on a course)…I’m not sure how Locktite is going to really save the days…I’ve personally witnessed many double BTS systems and bottle littering courses. It would be cool if a BTS had sort of a back up “safety mechanism” aside from bolt + dried Locktite. I’m thinking maybe longer bolt with a Nylock nut may be a possibility…? Trying to think of a better mousetrap is always fun…I’ve had a few ideas but of course, everyone wants feather-light, right?

I used the Wove top and bottom double bracket. I definitely tightened the crap out of those bolts and were the same ones I had used previously which didn’t come loose. That’s what’s weird part to me. The way the wove double bracket works, it would be hard to fit a nylock nut on the bolt closer to the back of the saddle which is the one that came loose first, as the top bottle cage is very close to where the screw comes through from the bottom. You could put a nylock nut on the bolt closer to the middle of the saddle since there’s nothing on top, I just didn’t think it would be needed since it’s always been very secure.

I’ll put extra loctite on next time and add a nut to the exposed bolt. Probably part of it is that in training even when I use those bottles they aren’t loaded to the brim with carbs which makes the bottles super heavy. I also tend to ride roads with some bumps but less constant vibration/rattle than Jacksonville had, but you’d think I might’ve had an issue with a couple thousand outdoor miles vs the first 30ish miles in Jacksonville when it started coming loose

Also you probably did not have an issue before because the new screws are provided by Wove with a nylon patch on the threads (that dried blue compound drop) that is a kind of thread locker that can be applied ahead of time.

Once you’ve removed the screws once or twice (you said you re-mounted it?) it’s kind of gone, and now you would need to apply the regular liquid medium strength (removable) blue loctite/permatex.
This can’t be pre-applied - just at the time of installation (wet application, cure in place).
If you have space for a nut, that’s a good extra insurance :slight_smile:

Ah interesting, yeah I had gotten a better cage for the under the saddle mount so I had taken the bracket off to attach that cage. Didn’t think to touch up on loctite since it has been nice and tight before. I did ride a couple times outside with that cage but actually I don’t think had put a bottle in there prior to the race.

Maybe bad luck but I always say that you’re responsible to using proper equipment and preparation to prevent mechanicals, so that’s absolutely my fault. Really sucked during the race when losing my carbs caught up, and sucked this week since I’m cheap and had to order new stuff (shoutout to Wove for the cages which are less than half the price of gorilla/tririg cages though!).

Designed and made myself a new accessory for my Wove saddles - a Garmin Varia Radar/Light combo with the “transition hook” that doubles as a bracket so secure my single and double BTS systems.

I wanted one for my backup/training bike. So I made a new variation. I rely on a 3rd party (injection molded) Garmin interface for safety (instead of a 3D printed bit):

It only works with the non-camera version of the radar light and the angle is fixed at 17.5 deg from the “channel” in the saddle tail so that the radar is close to vertical for my ~4.5 deg saddle tilt. Here it is mounted in combination with the single BTS mount:

With the single BTS mount you need a small index finger to activate the power button of the light, or simply rotate the radar in the quarter-turn mount a bit to power on/off, then put it back in position.

With the side-by-side BTS, the relief in the Carbon Fiber plate provides direct access to the power button.

Here it is mounted on my “mule” / training bike (I just cleaned it and gave it some love - I had forgotten how well it cleans up and ride!):

The round relief under the bracket can still act as a “transition hook” to rack the bike in a triathlon transition but I would not use both the radar AND racking the bike like this: unless you lift the bike much higher when pulling the bike off the rack, chances are you knock off the light and maybe damage its mounting interface in the process.

So that little bracket has now 3 uses: secure the BTS, act as a transition hook in a triathlon, and hold a Garmin radar light in training - pretty happy with this one so far. :slight_smile:

I made this for myself, but if someone has one of my kits and would have a use for that, just reach out and we’ll figure something out.

Note: it’s not meant to be used as a ‘standalone’ – the threaded inserts are tilted to match the axis of the screws from my BTS systems (7 deg off vertical) although it would be easy to make a variation of it (or just mount with slightly crooked screws and a nylon or silicone washers, as there is not much weight to deal with here.

I will admit it … I was a skeptic … skeptical of the ‘true’ benefit of a $520 saddle so I refused to buy it. In the meantime, I spend ~$1000 on other saddles chasing comfort. When the V8 Metal came out I still hadn’t found saddle comfort so, I thought at $325 I’ll give it a chance. Looking back I wish I wouldn’t have waited. I put the V8 Metal on my bike and promptly went on a 100 mile ride … No discomfort, no chafing, simply saddle nirvana!

Coupled with spocket’s side-by-side BTS system, this is the best saddle/BTS combination out there!

While I should have posted this a while back, I wanted to share my experience with Nick and Wove saddles. Back in Jul/Aug 2023, I was training for the IM World Championship in Nice. I was riding a Dash seat for the previous 8 years, also had a Prologue, but got super curious about the Wove V8. I chose to race on my road bike (Wilier SLR-0) with aero bars vs my Cervelo P5 because of the up and crazy downhills in that race. I reached out to Wove and they were having supply delays but managed to get me a seat quickly. The quality, fit and finish was excellent as I took it out of the box. I excitedly mounted it on the bike and tried it out for 4 rides and thought I had made a huge mistake, couldn’t get comfortable. I reached out to Wove and Nick responded quickly with some fit advice, sent him a video of me on the bike, and after some feedback, I was in heaven. This has been my favorite seat I’ve ever had. I ride it on a road bike, with or without the aero bars set up pretty aggressively, and can ride for hours. Thanks again Nick for your help a few years ago. Customer for life.
