Would Zabriskie and Cancellara also ride a 54cm PC3 as track pursuiters?

These two guys are obviously riding what would be considered by many too small frames for their size when timetrailing.

I was wondering if they would also ride smallish frames as track pursuiters.

Thanks beforehand for your comments.

Not really, I’m 6’ and the 54cm P3C fit me perfect! I do believe Bjorn Andersson, also big, rode a 54cm

Actually… the problem is… most peope ride frames that are TOO BIG.

Yes, pursuit setback is 5cm, just like road TT. They’d only potentially switch frames for the kilo, where they could ride with the nose level with the BB, so 5cm further forward.

I am not sure, but I think that Gerard mentioned that DZ would ride a 56 instead of a 54 if he would be doing triathlons.

Sergio was about 5 cm ahead of the BB for his last triathlon last month and now he in the same bike converted to Pursuit 5 cm behind the BB. Rappstar’s comment is interesting because moving the seat so much must have an effect on bike sizing.

He raced last weekend in Mexico City and finished 4th in the first event of the National Track Cup. He missed the podium by a fraction of a second (which might be a lot in a 2km TT  ) Not bad considering he is racing older kids and that he has not practiced much in this format. He also “rode over a kid’s head” (in his own words) in the points race and he hit the ground on that race. He came back bruised but in good mood.

I am not in a hurry, because he is doing fine in the converted P2SL and this year is a year to gain experience as it will be hard to win. I do have to be careful in choosing a new pursuit track bike. He is still growing and there is no market for such a used bike down here.

Thanks for your comments.

Yes, DZ would probably ride a bit further forward, and without so much drop, if he were a triathlete (especially a long course athlete), so he would want more top tube, and a bit more headtube.
