I’ve got a pool triathlon next week, so i was thinking of training tomorrow, in a public pool, in a trisuit! But im not sure because I’ll look like a proper twat! ![]()

I do only once a year though. Had an issue a couple of years ago where I found my tri suit was too tight after I’d added some muscle over the winter. Worst swim in a race I’ve ever had!
Just do a swim in the tri suit to check all is OK.

Ha!
I just did that earlier today. I like to wear my trisuit sometimes in the pool because that allows me to wear a heart rate monitor strap without it slipping down at every end of the pool. Today my HR stabilized at about 152 while swimming 300m hard. I think a lot of my other sets were too easy based on my HR, I like to get a check of my effort level for various speeds now and then.
I also like to wear a new trisuit once or twice just to make sure it fits and works well while swimming.
the chlorine will destroy the suit quickly. use swim jammers that are chlorine resistant. tyr makes good ones ( i say cause its the longest one that lasted, and i tried a few)
Do a training swim in the suit before race day. You might discover issues (ex. parachuting as you come off the wall) that would suck on raceday. Just rinse it well after due to the chlorine.
Another option is doing the race in a jammer or speedo, and having a full zip tri top at the edge of the pool. Grab it as you exit and put it on during the run to T1.

I think pool triathlons require brief swim suits. Another rule states, I think, that no tops shall be worn, except for World Championship events.
April Fools was yesterday you fool
.
Just do it if you want to! We are triathletes, the one thing we are guaranteed is that at some point we are going to look like twats. No worse getting in the pool in a trisuit than going up and down with a snorkel, fins, paddles etc IMO.
Or don’t! After all, it is probably only 400m, and there’s only so much damage you can do in 6 minutes give or take.
I’ve used my sleeved suit at the pool for training in Summer for arvo swims, but that is for Sun protection as the pool is outdoors and the Aussie sun is baking.
There are some pool triathlons around here, I think Everyone wears tri suits as it makes for an easy transition, rather than wearing jammers and putting on clothing in T1.

I wish it only took me 6 minutes!
If I had a wetsuit, if be using is in the pool. It’s open, but was 42 degrees today. Or maybe I’d want a drysuit?

I just bought my first wetsuit and have nowhere to try it out right now. Certainly not wearing it to the pool. Haha. I’ve got one open water swim in a few weeks before I start racing and it’s probably going to too hot here for a wetsuit. I may still just wear it to get used to it
As ridiculous as it may seem I would actually recommend you do wear it in the pool for a demo for two reasons:
Yes chlorine will damage the suit and you will look ridiculous in the pool with a wet suit. But as a one-off trial run you are far better off testing in the pool than hoping you will be OK on race day.
Pretty sure tri-suit is not equal to wet suit.
edit NM thought you were replying to the OP
I often train with a tight shirt or Tri suit for half my workout in outdoor pools because of skin exposure. If i have had any surgical skin procedures over the winter i do the same for a few weeks so the stitches or wounds are not visible. It may seem out there but do what makes you faster on race day.

I assume you aren’t talking about ITU rules then, because ITU rules don’t allow you to be bare chested at any time.
DON’T do it.

I should have written that in pink. But yes, ITU does make you cover our third nipples and treasure trails.

I would absolutely, positively, train with a wetsuit before you race in it. Even if a pool was the only venue I could do it at. You need to check the fit. You need to get used to the position and feel of the suit. Taking it off a few times can also make it much faster to get off; when a wetsuit is new, it can be hard to get off, even with body glide on the elbows and calves. Rinse it off well with fresh water and it will be fine if you are just using it once and assuming the pool has a normal concentration of chlorine in it.
Only if it’s a VERY affordable suit.
Chlorine WILL cause you suit to break down!
We all need to do it in order to ensure there aren’t any ‘kinks’ just remember to wet the suit first, rinse it well after, and clean it with gentle detergent!

I use my wetsuit in the pool befire each big race just to acclimate myself to the suit. I also do an open water swim if possible too.
