Are there any problems reported with the newer models of PT Pro? Worthwhile to wait for PT SL?
I had the new SL in my hands at Interbike…pretty sweet for sure. I think it will have some good features like an easy change battery and much improved software (even though I use cycling peaks) I would wait if I were you.
I would say just go ahead and get the PT Pro. They are on sale at Performance and with the 20% coupon and 10% team performance discount they csot me about $720.
I have started a webpage on powertap for those interested. So far only installation and results but more to come…

Where can I get these coupons?
Thanks in advance
I had the same dilema and decided to go ahead and get the PT pro now. The SL won’t be easily available for a while from what I understand in addition to being $300+ more expensive. A winter off season spent training with power at a cheaper price makes more sense to me. You could always sell the PT pro later and upgrade. There is a pretty good market for them used.

Yea I agree, so far I’ve been having allot of fun with mine. I actually plan on doing some races with it as well. Heck there was one guy here on ST that won 1st overall at AG Nationals riding it. From the pics it looked like he had a CH disc cover on it.
Also so far I’ve found the software to be fine. It works perfectly, no software errors, conflicts etc.
I’m opting to use it in “B” races that are flat.
Once and for all I feel like I can truely measure my up/down state of fitness during the year.
Or just get the standard.
Seriously, the difference between the standard and pro is not that much. I think the best investment would be in cyclingpeaks. That thing is terrific for training.
Cycling peaks is almost as useful as the power meter itself! Definitely wouldn’t want to be without it.

if you are match any of these four items, get the SL:
-
racing on the PT (built up with a carbon rim)
-
riding ALOT in the rain
-
are Bill Gates
-
are a die hard weight weenie and carbon techno junkie
I looked at the SL, and was impressed, but I am just using the system for training (use a 909 for racing) and could not really justify it. I use a mix of 9 speed Ultegra and DA on my 4 yr old S-Works, and this is my daily workhorse, so a $1200 carbon hub is not really something I need.
After a 5 week wait, my PT Pro finally was shipped this week (huge backlog), looking forward to installing and using it on the road bike. Got a 2nd mounting kit for the TT bike so I can use it for all training rides.
Is the hub really that bad that you would not advise racing with it? I am hoping to use a Hed Alps rim (650c) and put on a wheel cover race day.

Not that it is a bad hub to race on, but IF you plan on racing on it you may as well get the lightest hub you can
