Worst movie scene ever for an athlete?

Post your nominations.

Mine would probably have to go to the hobbling scene in “Misery”, when you see the ankle just get whacked to a 90 degree angle with the sledgehammer. Saw that in the theaters in the middle of track season…bleagh…

Teaches people to take pleasure from losing, not good for athletes, great for the rest of us though

Care for a swim anyone?

A few years ago, I broke my collarbone playing soccer (oddly enough, at a conference on medical imaging – one of my colleagues showed my x-ray to everyone the next morning).

So as I was recovering, I rented the DVD for Unbreakable, not really knowing much about it. There’s a scene where Mr. Glass is falling, in slow motion, down a long flight of stairs, and you know he is going to break a lot of bones. That was pretty bad at the time.

Somewhat swim related: The purposful drowning scene in The Abyss was one of the most powerful (to me anyway) moments I had seen in a movie. Still packs an emotional punch when I see it.

Yeah, the ankle scene in misery is harsh! I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

I can’t think of much right now, but what does come to mind is the opening scene in Cliffhanger where Sly drops the woman in to the canyon. That scene always blows my mind.

Not necessarily the worst scene for an athlete, but possibly one of the worst scenes for a guy, is in Hostel 2 where the dude gets his dick cut off with boltcutters. Ouch!

Weak!!!

The scene where the skater in Ice Castles trips over the chain and hits her head casuing her to go blind.

…and if you know what I’m talking about, you’ve got no room calling me gay! ; ^ )

Okay, as bad as that was, it doesn’t beat the book version, where she cuts his feet off with a chainsaw and cauterizes the stubs with an acetylene torch…

OUCH!

Maybe not so bad, but the only movie one that comes to mind at the moment (and does in fact give me the willies)… “City of Angels”, where Meg Ryan gets creamed by the logging truck.

I don’t remember the title, but it was a scene where a guy was tied up in a basement, hands over his head, and someone cuts right through his achilles tendon with a scalpel/razor… eeesh…

That happened in Pet Cemetary, though he wasn’t tied up. It made me cringe.

Ding Ding Ding!

I think we have a winner here…

Yes, that scene is horrible. I believe the old guy is walking by the bed and the nasty little boy is waiting under the bed with a scalpel. That gives me the heebie jeebies!

Wow, this is weird. I had an absolutely horrible dream last night where a car full of my friends were hit by a logging truck…I was standing right there and I had to watch them all die.

Did you then reach into your dead friend’s pocket and tack the keys to his corvette? That’s usually how those dreams end up for me. I mean…its not like he’s got any use for the car anymore. I’ve always said, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.

I’ll bet money that fulla will NOT say that Mulholland Drive has any bad athletic scenes. In fact, I bet that you started a thread about the best movie scenes for an athlete, he’ll find some way of mentioning Mulholland Drive.

Similar scene - when kunta kinte in Roots got his feet/ankles smashed so he couldn’t run away anymore.

How’d you know they were driving a corvette??? SCARY, man!!

I know these kinds of things.
