World's Ugliest Cars

http://images.businessweek.com/ss/07/08/0824_uglycars/index_01.htm?campaign_id=yhoo

Some of these are obvious. AMC seems to have the market cornered on ugly design. I disagree with the Corvair and Vega which I think had nice designs. Other nominations:

Mid-late 90’s Caprice Classic
Mid 70’s Chysler Cordoba. Actually almost any mid-70’s American sedan.
Pontiac Transport mini van

Any more nominee’s?

I saw an edsel on my ride this morning

You can add any full size suv, especially the escalade. Being american, you’re probably unaware of the austin allegro, that was pretty special.

Didn’t see the Matador on there…right about the time AMC was really in the ugly phase, but I suppose if you were building cars in Kenosha, Wisconsin, you would have a jaded sense of beauty:

.

i knew they’d pick the pacer…

i love pacers - and did even before Wayne’s World.

I think they should put that boxy scion with the underbite on the list.

They had the Matador wagon. I guess the Javelin was something they did OK

The Rambler! LOL…forgot about that one (and yes, my family owned one of those way back when…)!

They forgot the AMC Spirit of which I was an owner for several years. Mine was white though.

Somehow I think todays Dodge’s will not wear well.

Automobile of choice for every Iranian college student in 1981. Combine that with some silk shirts buttoned down to the naval, and Aramis cologne and you have a potent sex machine.

Very Smokey and the Bandit.

When I was in high school, my first car was an AMC Rambler. I blew a gasket in the engine and could not afford to fix it. AM radio only, bench seats, etc. Today, those cars are a collectors item.

My second car, while still in high school was an AMC Hornet station wagon. Hand me down from my parents. Huge step up in quality, but it was an ugly blue color car (and a station wagon).

Today, I drive a Jeep Cherokee - I think it is the last AMC car still manufactured.

Let me throw some cars as seen in Europe in the mix:

And plenty more where that came from.

Sometimes i wonder how things happen. It’s one thing to design a bland boring car. It’s another to design one that’s reaally ugly.

First of all, your picture of the Trans-Am, while cool, is too big and it totally messed me up. So I’ll throw some suggestions in the mix:
Ford Escort-pick a year Aztec Honda Element Toyota Scion I totally agree with the Pontiac Trans-Port
This is my short list off the top of my head.

I think that the writers here are way off base, in some cases. They don’t come close to being the ugliest cars (maybe some of the worst cars) but even the Pinto and the Pacer are a little bit cool in an “I’m a crap car” kind of way. A mint condition Edsel will be a collectors item one day (if it isn’t already), and I find '50’s Cadillac’s to be far uglier. Heresy, I know. And as for the Transport minivan (or any minivan, really) it isn’t so much that they are ugly as they are boring. I couldn’t tell you which one I’m looking at without reading the nameplate

The Aztek should be #1 on the list. Why the Chevy Avalanche isn’t on the list is beyond me. .

I assume you mean the Scion XB?? The XA and tc are pretty sweet looking cars.

The one I am talking about is like a small box, with a smaller box on the front, that rides really low to the ground on 4 really small wheels. It seems to resemble a squished down bread truck. I think it is pretty horrendous, but maybe it is just me. I was not that aware of different models.

This is the XB:

They also have the XA, tc, and now XD which are better looking cars. The XB has also been remodeled and doesn’t look as hideous.

For sure it was the XB that I was referring to. I suppose the tc is not too bad, but still I wouldn’t have any of them in my driveway.

I would also throw in the Prius when they put those nerdy wheel well covers on. Looks like a Jetson’s car.

Also the first generation Ford Taurus. Looked like an inverted jelly bean.
