Even more interesting is that yesterdays TT for women was won by Karen Theurig, who won IM Switzerland earlier this year with a huge margin. If I´m not mistaken, she´ll be doing Hawaii in a few weeks.
Yep…apparently she stated that she is just hoping to finish top ten at Kona for a qualifying spot next year.
Is David Z. still injured?
To bad David along Mr. Retired, Jan, and Tyler weren’t there to contest the TT title. I realize it isn’t that important anymore to Jan and for Lance as well ,but it still would have been interesting to see.
Who cares? This guy couldn’t crack the top 30 in either TT at the Tour when it counted the most! They (UCI) should just name the final TT at the Tour as the official World TT championship.
Dave in VA
BTW, Dave Z. injured his hand in a freak accident in August which is why he missed the event.

Or move the Worlds to being a couple of weeks after the Tour finishes, like it used to be. Then all the big-hitters would have two weeks to recover and would be in fantastic form. Even better, they would actually bother riding the Worlds.
Well I guess I care for one which is why I mentioned it ;-).
I think that the dude who wins the final TdF TT is the best TT champ as well but you know full well the UCI would nevre go for that. That is why I mentioned that it was to bad that there were so many guys missing.
I’m with you on this. That’s a great idea. As it stands now with the Worlds at the end of the years it seems almost an after thought for a lot of riders. It’s to bad.

I agree that there are a few guys missing but Rogers has proved several times to be one of the absolut best cyclists in the world in standalone TT:s. Doing a TT at the end of a 3-week stage race is probably very different and not comparable to the one day races.
It certainly is a bit of the survival of the fitest at that point isn’t it. Though I would be willing to bet that David, Jan, and Lance beat Michael heads up in a one day TT. I’m not trying to take anything away from the guy…as he has obviously proven himself and will only get better over the next few years.
Rogers lost 1:52 over 19km in the first TT of this years tour.
Agreed. I suspect that it’s a very different game time-trialing during or near the end of a Grand Tour. This is more of a specialists game the stand-alone ITT at the World Chamionships or elsewhere.
I know that former World Duathlon Champion Dr. Matt Brick qualified at took part in the ITT at the World Championships a few years ago. Is this something you see yourself doing some time. If you focused just on this, could you raise your cycling time-trial fitness to the level to at least qualify for and then possibly compete at this level?
Matt Brick finished 20th at the World’s ITT in Bogota Columbia in ~ 1992. Jonathan Hall from Oz was World Du champ and also went on to finish something like 4th at the UCI World’s ITT.
By the way, 1994 World Du Champ Norman Stadler went on to win Hawaii in 94!
Note that I was the one that started the thread and stated how fast Rogers went and how I wish I could go that fast…I was paying the guy a compliment. I think Rogers is a great cyclist and will only get better over the next few years as I also stated above.
You are right that other quality riders such as Floyd and Levi weren’t there (I’m a fan of both) and I didn’t even mention how disappointing Bobby’s ride was in the TT. Certainly understandable considering how long his season was and how hard his efforts were as well.
I still think that Jan, Lance, Bobby, Eki, Tyler, David Z., Floyd, and maybe Levi could take Rogers on a one day TT. With that said, either those guys weren’t there are they got smoked by Rogers today…and good on him for repeating his World Championship ;-)…he deserves it.
I don’t know, doing a 50k TT requires very different qualities as opposed to really long TT’s or Ironman cycling. I know I could do a lot better on short TT’s if I prepared for them specifically but it’d probably take a year or so to find out. We’ll see what happens with triathlon for me after 2007 but just focusing on TT’s is pretty hard since it’s relatively small within cycling and pursuing RR cycling as a pro or something is way too late for me.
Bjorn…you’ll have a 40K ITT this weekend at westchester. Sub 50 or the ST position police will resign you to poserland claiming your seat is too high and you have too many spacers :-). Good luck.
Ha ha, well it seemed like a good idea a week a go to do the race but I can assure you that I’m having second thoughts now. I haven’t been this overreached in a while…
Just where is the quality field ? Aside from Rogers, Rich and a couple of others, I only wish the other specialists or heavy hitters would show up. Rogers is good but he’s not in the same league as Armstrong or Ullrich on even a typical day…
