i dont think its that far off topic while world tri get some amateurs to race their races they are far from full capacity and they dont really care, so why would you think they would care about middle distance triathlon.
unless you belive les mc donald is still world tri president like ryan does .
world tri since 2010 have had no real interest in tri outside oly games and lately para olympics.
i would say they care about middle distance triathlon marginally more than long course world duathlon champs as pto obviously has deeper pockets and gives more money to be called world champs .
the benefit could be synergies to reduce costs ie if you have world tri race marshals for world tri and pto races in same venue and pto foots the bill , and whit that saving they might increase world series prize money for the first time in 10 years or so …
overall i think its a positive move but i cant see it as a re asserting itself long course.
too add pto does not have a single long course race i belive …
