World Triathlon Championship Series Alghero 2026

This race has potential to be better than the World Series final last year.

me too. Still:

I would be interested to know why you think it (podium picks) is set up well ?
for instance its mad that you can end up with 10 points in getting lucky to get the fastest biker right or 5 for top 3 ( iam not even sure that should get be part of if for draft legal racing )
and get 1 point if 5th place comes 4th overall . and 4 points if your 5th place comes 4th and your 4th place comes 5th .

Well-made recap and pre-event video by World Triathlon. Gotta say that they’re stepping up this year with the new commentary team and now the content they’re coming up with. Broadcasting live on YouTube is just the next logical step next year.

Its not going to be easy to break away, CB and Tertsch will be near/at the front of the swim (weird how Tertsch is prepared to go to the front of a swim, but not go near the front of a bike) Lehair and Potter on their day are FP swimmers.

Obviously non of the uber bikers want to be coming into T2 with that lot, but there’s too many strong bikers for 3or4 to break away.

Maybe Knibb, Fullager and GTB should be getting some kind of plan together to get away, from everyone else, they could possibly pull something off (3 strongest bikers)

Hauser will have decent company with him with Graff, maybe Connix? Few others, think he needs at least a minute though if he’s being chased down by Yee and co, fascinating stuff!

With supertri all but gone (except for the final), WTCS broadcasts are currently second to none in triathlon. Not even close.

It’s not weird at all when you know what her race tactics are. Of course she would always like a break on the bike, will work right up until the time she can either hide in it, or knows the groups will come together. Then she is a passenger, saving as much as possible for the run. She know on her day that she can run with anyone, and if it comes to a sprint, she always backs herself. So her swimming on the front is mostly just about making sure she makes whatever front bike group there is going to be, as she has missed that in some races and then has to burn a ton of matches hammering back to the front. She understands swimming harder to be in front is much better overall than having to ride hard for no gain, and just to get to even…

she is one of the smartest racers, people just dont like it.
the hate I got last week when I said during the bike , GTB was racing like tertch, which meant smart … I guess I should have said like blu …for him it’s ok if he hides.

If you’d said “GTB is biking like Lange”, imagine what ST would’ve unleashed on you…

Brayden Mercer is in
and wilde is out.

Exactly! It’s so interesting that the triathlon watching audience seems so quick to applaud someone racing hard without a thought to tactics, over someone who is a great tactical racer, knows their and their competition’s strengths and weaknesses, and plays their cards accordingly.

I’ve made the comparison before, but nobody would watch the Giro and say that Vingagaard should be pulling the peloton halfway through a stage. Likewise, there’s no reason for Tertsch, Potter, Beaugrand and others do that in a WTCS if they’re in the front group already.

If USA selects Gwen for LA28 the federation has failed. Sorry, know I am going to get some haters but if you haven’t developed a full squad 2 full Olympic cycles later you are doing something wrong.

Spivey and GTB will be interesting to see how they bounce back after the T100. Sophie is going well but not back at the top yet with her running. Her lack of pace might be exposed tomorrow. If there is a breakaway she will be one of those working hard with Jess and Olivia to stay away. Knibb I can see her top 10 but not on the podium, her lack of speed will be exposed but I can see her changing the race dynamics if she can make front pack out of the swim. The 3 french women will be in the mix but Leonie will probably be on the podium. Hard to look past Potter/Periault/Lehair and the 3 French but I could be wrong. Who knows it is triathlon anything can happen and crashes happen on this course.

Men hard to look past Hauser. Was Yee added to the start list later? He wasn’t on there when I looked and I thought he was in the middle of a huge training block. The others have a chance to be top 10 but I can see Hauser and a small group attacking and staying away. Hugo is running well again but there is no point having the fastest run if you finish 15th?

Oh that’s a shame, was looking forward to all the main players being there.

Any reason give for Wilde’s, withdrawal?

I won’t disagree with you, I’ll only say it’s damn hard to develop olympic medal worthy talent. That’s what LA Games is going to showcase US’s lack of ability too. Because I think they are going to get both men and women 3 spots, they just don’t have podium talent. They have a bunch of guys or gals who can finish T1x. Which is a “failure” by high performance metrics, not denying that.

I don’t think GJ is going to get picked for the 3rd spot, even though I think she will finish as a top 3 ranked US woman. She isn’t a podium threat, nor is she going to AQ, so she’s going to open herself to the same “politics” a few others will be under. I think they are going to ultimately go with Orie or a younger developmental athlete as a MTR “backup” pick that obviously gets to race the individual race.

Yeah, agree that the points system for the PTN podium picks is kinda dumb - not well thought out.

Love the feedback. We were trying to get it off the ground and actually put quite a bit of thought into how we wanted to structure a triathlon game. Maybe we can change how it looks next year. How would you think the points should be structured going foward?

She has a degree from Harvard doesn’t she? If she’s worked out forcing the pace on the swim is more advantageous to her, than doing a few turns at the front on the bike then I ain’t going to argue.

I’ll just be glad GTB won’t be racing like Tertsch tomorrow! Gutted about Wilde.
