World champions!

Ok, maybe not. But my co-ed softball team did win our second league championship tonight against a team that beat us every time we played them in the regular season (at least 3 times), and has beaten us every time we played them in our men’s league.

We won 7-6 in the top of the 7th (and final) inning. They had runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs (so tying run on 2nd, winning run on first) and their pitcher (2nd best hitter) at the plate. Full count, our pitcher throws a good pitch, he scorches a line drive to right field. Our right fielder (who has played with us in 2 previous games) has the ball go into his glove, he goes to squeeze it in and the ball magically pops out. I’m playing first so I scream for him to throw it home. The runner on 2nd was running with the hit ball, but held up briefly upon seeing the ball go into the left fielders glove. The throw goes way past me and the pitcher, about to the middle of the third base line, where for some reason our totally air headed third baseman was positioned. The ball short hops him, but goes right into his glove and the runner from second carries right into him with his momentum.

Thankfully our coach had a bottle of really crappy champagne and we celebrated with a cooler full of beer!!!

Second year in a row, oh how sweeeeet!!!
