So you thought it would never happen in our sport.The Double Ironman World Champion and World Double Iron record holder Vadim Suraev of Isreal(born in Siberia) has had his title and world record stripped after testing positive to cannabis in the event drug tests.He told the officials that he was undergoing personal problems in the lead-up to the event held in Austria earlier this year.The officials had no choice but to stick to the rules and wipe his title,his record(19:47) and suspend him for the remainder of the Ultra-triathlon season.

How can they possibly put cannabis on the list of drugs to test? It is in no way performance enhancing, unless your sport of choice is eating snack foods.

It's on the list along with a whole bunch of over the counter medication that no doubt we all have used at some stage during our racing lives.I guess we are all dopers.Cough medication is the one that tastes the best.

"7. Drugs used in medicine are routinely given what is called
an LD-50. The LD-50 rating indicates at what dosage fifty percent of
test animals receiving a drug will die as a result of drug induced
toxicity. A number of researchers have attempted to determine
marijuana’s LD-50 rating in test animals, without success. Simply
stated, researchers have been unable to give animals enough marijuana to
induce death.
8. At present it is estimated that marijuana's LD-50 is around
1:20,000 or 1:40,000. In layman terms this means that in order to induce
death a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times as
much marijuana as is contained in one marijuana cigarette. NIDA-supplied
marijuana cigarettes weigh approximately .9 grams. A smoker would
theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within
about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response."
